    Health Center and mobile HIV STI testing units As a member of the Research Thesis Program she is involved in a project to characterize the prevalence of chlamydia gonorrhea and HIV in youth who have been part of the juvenile justice system in Cook County Ms Watson also undertook a service project that was a collaboration between the Erie Family Health Center and Lending Hands for Life Program to survey and develop an evaluation tool to assess the wellbeing of residents following an HIV AIDS education curriculum She is a clinical resident in internal medicine at the University of Chicago Service Scholars Edward Elchico Rush Medical College of Rush University Medical Center A second year medical student Edward Elchico is committed to supporting urban underserved communities As an undergraduate at the University of California Berkeley where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in molecular and cell biology he tutored inmates in GED curricula at San Quentin Prison served as a health educator and patient navigator for 5 years at a Filipino community health center and mentored youth at a K 8 English Tagalog Bilingual afterschool program including the inclusion of health and wellness topics in the afterschool curriculum Prior to medical school he served in the AmeriCorps at the LifeLong Over 60 Health Center in Alameda County CA where he coordinated a smoking cessation program led a low impact physical activity group and managed a free vegetable program serving 70 low income seniors weekly Mr Elchico s community project focuses on the enhancement of discharge planning services provided to detainees in the Cook County Jail Opioid Treatment Program Tiphany Jackson Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine A third year medical student Tiphany Jackson has demonstrated a commitment to increasing diversity volunteering in the community and serving as a mentor to future health professionals Ms Jackson graduated from Duke University in 2011 with a degree in sociology and minors in women s studies and chemistry While there she was actively involved in research regarding the underserved including incarcerated populations and HIV positive individuals As an Albert Schweitzer Fellow she participated in the Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program a pipeline program established through the Student National Medical Association that seeks to increase diversity in health care via exposure and mentorship for high school students She initiated a mentoring relationship with premedical students at Dominican University and served as a mentor on the week long Tour for Diversity As a first year medical student Ms Jackson was paired with a local family to be their health resource and serve as a patient advocate She also volunteers at the Women s Health Clinic and New Life Volunteering Society Clinic providing care to underinsured patients Ms Jackson s community project seeks to improve sexual decision making among young women of color engaging in potentially risky sexual behaviors Joseph Lee Rush Medical College of Rush University Medical Center Joseph Lee a third year medical student is an active participant in health fairs within the
