    so called boy s home at the Norsk Folkemuseum The exhibition at the Norsk Folkemuseum dedicated to the so called home of boys on the island Bastøy emerged in connection with the Norwegian film Kongen av Bastøy King of Devil s Island directed by Marius Holst The film has its première on the 17th of December whereas the exhibition starts on the 15th of December 2010 On Bastøy Island in the interior part of the Oslofjord was located the notorious prison colony for young men The Bastøy prison school had many nicknames A boys home a prison colony the devil s island the Bastøy prison school had many nicknames The house was one of the numerous prison colonies established in Norway in the early 1900 ies It was open from 1900 until 1953 and quite a few boys aged from 9 to 21 spent a significant number of years of their lives there By means of hard work reward punishment discipline and isolation the young boys who were considered to be quite hopeless could be turned into the so called good citizens During the first ten years the system of punishment was quite severe and the prison colony was being

  • Music Festival by:Larm in Oslo launches the new Nordic Music Prize — Valhalla
    Larm consists of two different parts a seminar and a music festival The event takes place in Oslo on the 17th 19th of February It focuses on young and preferably proactive artists This time the Festival is going to launch the new Nordic Music Prize The Nordic Music Prize is an award for the best Nordic album of 2010 inspired by the British Mercury Music Prize The prize is an initiative of the by Larm conference in Norway which is the biggest most important conference and showcase event for the wider Nordic music industry In setting up the Nordic Music Prize by Larm has several aims to create a stronger unity across the region s industry and to refocus on the full length album as an art form 12 Nordic records will be nominated for the prize which will be adjudicated by a jury headed by Andres Lokko and comprised of international journalists and label people This is a serious project it is to be approached with an open mind The jury consists of some of Europe s most respected music lovers who examine the music from an entirely different qualitative and creative perspective The Nordic Music Prize is first

  • Music builds bridges between the youngest pupils in the West Nordic region — Valhalla
    The tour was a result of co operation with NAPA the Nordic Institute in Greenland The duo consists of the chamber musicians Herdís Anna Jónsdottir and Steef van Oosterhout who in their everyday life play with the National Icelandic Symphony Orchestra This time however they gave their young audience a somewhat untraditional musical experience Among other things they spiced up their musical show with Icelandic stories rhythms beaten on clogs and tones produced by using sandpaper The kids were really happy and they understood a lot even though our show was in Icelandic It just proves that music is an international language When you perform with honesty it really strikes the children deeply We both received smiles sparkles in several eyes and we even got hugs after some of the performances says Herdís with an honest loving smile A tour of Southern Greenland The tour of Southern Greenland was a cultural success too The Faeroese Eventyrfærd toured Narsaq Nanortalik Qaqortoq and Narsarsuaq where 600 800 children could enjoy the crazy musical and storytelling show It has been really fantastic and the kids have been so happy say the artists Dánjal á Neystabø and Búi Dam who are the persons behind
