  • Nordic poetry festival introduces lyric poetry into the school curriculum — Valhalla
    young lovers of poetry from all the Nordic countries will have an opportunity to meet each other and work together for three days The new Nordic poetry festival will focus on lyric poetry and as an experiment this form of art will be introduced into the school curriculum in a number of towns in the Nordic countries The poetry festival Rolf Jacobsen s days in Hamar on the 6th 8th of March 2009 has an extensive programme that offers recitation workshops and lectures At the festival the participants will have an opportunity to present their work meet colleagues from the other Nordic countries and make themselves visible in the mass media Some of the most distinguished Nordic writers and poets will take part in this campaign The list of the participants includes inter alia Lars Saabye Christensen Staffan Søderholm Claes Andersson Einar Gudmundsson and Einar Økland Lyric poetry on the school curriculum All over the Nordic region the Nordic art of poetry will be included in education and in connection with the festival poetry will be introduced into the school curriculum Four ninth formers from Viborg Porvoo Lund Dalvik and Hamar respectively will be invited to a workshop in Hamar

    2006 2005 2004 Info The Saami Language Prize to Utsjoki and Umeå This year the Nordic Saami Language Prize was shared between the Saami association Sámi Siida in Utsjoki and the teacher of Ume Saami Henrik Barruk The language prize which is worth 12500 Euros is awarded biennially to individuals or organisations that have done valuable work to promote the Saami language For years the association Sámi Siida has been making every effort to promote the Saami language in the Utsjoki municipality Moreover the association has always prioritised the Saami language in its daily work For example in the activities aimed at children and young people only the Saami language is used The Ume Saami language In Sweden the Ume Saami language is dying out Henrik Barruk has worked for twenty years to vitalise the language He has taught the Ume Saami language for many years He has also inter alia documented the language produced texts vocabularies and described conjugation patterns to be used in the process of teaching Ume Saami The prize which this year was awarded in Finland was funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Justice The prize was handed over by the

  • Builders of the Future 2008 – day of architecture and design for pupils in Helsinki — Valhalla
    a whole day working with Hats of the Future at the Cable Factory in Helsinki Builders of the Future the gala event of architecture and design for pupils was held for the first time on the World Architecture Day the 2nd of October 2008 The event was part of the architecture and design day at schools organised with the aim of stimulating the interest in co operation between designers and young people Hats of the Future and Hatwalk The Hat of the Future was a concrete result of three dimensional work with things spaces and houses At the end of the day 500 hats were marched down a Hatwalk to the Merikaapeli stage on the heads of the young builders themselves Design competition What do young people think about contemporary life and professional design The youngsters will have an opportunity to answer these questions by taking part in a design competition on the turn of the month October November 2008 The goal of the competition is to bring forward the young people s visions of the future It is to be hoped that the competition will give an answer to the question What is good design The rules of the
