  • Young in the North 2004 (Ung i Norden 2004) — Valhalla
    Nordic culture festivals The festival initiated and supported by the Nordic Steering Committee for Children s and Youth Culture BUK under the Nordic Council of Ministers is held by turns in the Nordic countries and the autonomous regions By means of the Young in the North festivals BUK wishes to create a meeting place for youngsters where they provide inspiration for each other and co operate on their common interest in working with arts and culture In 2004 the arrangement is in Danish hands One of the organizers Berit Pallesen emphasizes during the festival that it is typically Danish that while working with youth culture it is the process that comes into focus however it should be added here that the quality of the product should also be O K But it is the focus on the process that has determined the form of the festival this year Therefore this year s Young in the North is designed to create a joint multi performance The participants have chosen various workshops dedicated to the themes relating to dance performance music film and visual art First they work in the workshops and later the various workshops form 3 bigger groupings each of which produces its part of the joint performance This form of working has apparently met with sympathy of the participants and at the evaluation during the meeting of the leaders on Saturday morning the organizers are given plenty of praise However some people object the youngster have had too little spare time and the programme is packed too in addition to the activities in the workshops and the joint performance there has been a number of parties for the youngsters who participate in Hi to Youth in the North featuring contributions from the different nations that they have prepared at
