  • North Penn Water Authority - Committed to Providing Safe, Reliable, and Economical Water - North Penn Water Authority Wishes to Thank Our Employees and All Those Involved in Restoration Efforts
215 855 3617 We at the North Penn Water Authority express our sincerest sympathies to those in our region who are still recovering from the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Sandy We recognize that many of our neighbors have been struggling with a lack of electricity no heat spoiled food interrupted phone television and internet service and flooded basements as well as property damage and road closures caused by falling trees and wires With all of the bad news right now we want to share that throughout this difficult time North Penn Water Authority s 33 000 customers have experienced no disruption of their water service related to the storm They continued to have quality water for drinking cooking and for all other household uses even when their power was disrupted While all of the Authority s systems were also hit by loss of electric during this historic storm the reason that our service was not interrupted was that when the electricity was lost we switched to our emergency power supply systems which rely on diesel fueled backup generators Our success during the storm was made possible by our staff of dedicated employees who were out in the storm before during and after ensuring that the generators were refilled with diesel fuel when necessary They also had to take over some of the manual control and observation of equipment that was necessitated by the loss of our usual remote control capabilities All of our staff involved did a great job under difficult circumstances and we commend them for their efforts and their commitment in always doing whatever it takes to get the job done It is because of dedicated employees and our recognition of how critical it is to have back up systems and procedures in place for such emergencies

  • North Penn Water Authority - Committed to Providing Safe, Reliable, and Economical Water - North Penn Water Authority proposes new water storage tank in Hatfield Township
Country Fresh site in an area of the township that is zoned for light industrial use This is a very appropriate location for this facility considering its zoning and its close proximity to large size water transmission mains that can transport water in and out of the tank As noted by Tony Bellitto Executive Director of NPWA There is a pressing need for more storage in our system to continue to adequately meet the increased water demands of our customers and to provide essential fire protection The NPWA has grown from only about 7 000 customers in 1965 to over 32 000 customers today over a 100 square mile service area The last time that NPWA added gravity storage in an elevated tank was in 1989 over 20 years ago Since that time NPWA s average daily water demand has grown from about 7 million gallons per day to about 10 million gallons per day and its peak daily water demand has grown from about 8 5 million gallons per day to about 15 million gallons per day As the number of customers and their associated water demands has grown steadily over these years the amount of water storage held in the NPWA s tanks has remained constant Standard practice in the water industry is to have storage capacity to meet one average daily water demand The existing NPWA tanks do not meet this criteria so additional storage is required Additional gravity storage in an elevated tank also provides uninterrupted flow to fight fires helps stabilize system pressures during high demand periods in the summer and provides reliable water pressure and supply during extended power outages Another important factor that compels the need for this new tank is that the NPWA needs to perform essential maintenance and painting on its
