  • Bringing a spec into OASIS | OASIS Staff Blogs
yes to this but the work is making good progress until the group comes up with a first draft and hits a wall It would be nice if we could make this a bit formal someone says Yeah someone else agrees if this could actually become a standard or better yet an international standard that regulators across the world recognize A third person throws their arms up in the air How on earth are we supposed to do that Easy you bring your specification to OASIS In fact that s been a trend over the years UDDI PKI WS I and more recently AMPQ MQTT PKCS 11 and a few in the wings which I m not allowed to mention yet are doing just that they look for a permanent home for their hard work and they choose OASIS for many reasons 1 We don t tell you what to do ie we don t set the technical agenda 2 We re open we have a transparent democratic governance model 3 We don t charge for specs 4 We ve been around for 20 years and will be for decades more 5 We provide you with marketing resources to do events or interop demos 6 We have a path to ISO and IEC your standard can go global 7 Our standards are recognized by European law and regulators 8 We give you control over the life of your standard via the Member Section mechanism if you need it 9 Your specification gets to keep its name we just tag on OASIS 10 Our Staff becomes your Staff Keep the trend going and contact us info oasis open org Add new comment Navigation Latest images About this blog Laurent Liscia blogs about his observations insights and interactions in his role as

  • Will Big Data Be A Growth Engine? | OASIS Staff Blogs
in the Cloud and the environments and software to process it can and will live there as well On the gossip end of this point note that Data Collective was started by Zachary Bogue husband of Marissa Mayer former Google executive and now CEO of Yahoo It may be Big Data but it s a small world Role of Privacy My second point is that Privacy issues will come to the fore as a business opportunity rather than a problem What I m seeing in the marketplace is a shift from control of the data by content providers to opt in control by consumers who will gradually understand that their data is being monetized In fact a variety of software has already emerged to let you set your own levels of privacy whether it s the Do Not Track feature in some browsers or utilities that let you browse in peace and escape the peskiness of contextual advertising This will go further there will be software that lets you selectively give up specific information for a monetary benefit in the form of discounts extra features more storage free stuff The other day Dropbox gaves me another 250mb of storage for a referral The referral was to my wife an easy target for me not to worry she wanted to join Dropbox anyway There will also be new software and new ways of designing software with privacy built in from the ground up This software will leverage new standards in OASIS we have one standard called PMRM that allows policy makers to automate their privacy policies by providing a standard model for how privacy policy works We have another brand new standard called Privacy By Design which teaches developers how to include privacy measures for consumers from the getgo The need

  • Doing cloud standards right – at the intersection of “it’s too soon to start” and “we can’t wait for the work to complete” | OASIS Staff Blogs
implementer needs the business needs of multiple suppliers and the technical realities everyone faces takes time more time than anyone would like But if it s done right it will take no longer than necessary to meet all those needs and to maximize the cost savings and new market development everyone wants We also hear that it s too soon to start standardization activity With emerging technologies like the current crop of cloud activities and every new paradigm before that we hear that the time isn t yet right to start standards development it is still being determined how the entire marketplace will work With the pundit cacophony sounding both negative messages we know the time is right for the standards activity to accelerate Let s use the laboratory setting of standards development activity to give voice to the myriad stakeholders implementers technology suppliers and future suppliers to hammer out the details of how a few well engineered standards can empower the entire marketplace with greater interoperability We must get started before the real world setting of competing market share creates too many pain points of proprietary implementations and integration roadblocks we all want standards to alleviate Like so many
