    their endeavors to improve their leadership skills and to reach un churched people in their communities 3 Who may apply for funds Ontario MB churches and associate churches Ontario MB conference ministry committees Individual Ontario MB church members 4 What types of programs or activities will be considered In general those mentioned in the Leadership and Organizational Development Plan Pastoral internships defined as primarily an exploration of pastoral ministry as a vocational choice Pastoral apprenticeships defined as emphasis on skill formation and the acquiring of semi autonomous leadership responsibility Short term outreach or service programs mission trips Mentoring workshops conferences support groups full or part time study in ministry related courses or programs such as those offered by Bible colleges and seminaries 5 What must be the key characteristics of the programs One or more of Outreach to the community Leadership development and support 6 What length of programs will be considered Programs with a minimum of one part day to programs with a maximum of one year Note If a program extends beyond one calendar year end a separate application must be made for the second part year 7 What expenditures will be considered Monies may be used to pay salaries travel tuition registration fees and materials 8 Is a budget outline required Yes an application must include a budget which contains estimated cost of the program components e g salaries travel materials all projected revenue sources and amounts e g local church ministry board self See appendix for budget outline template 9 Must the sponsoring church or board and individual contribute a portion of the funding Yes appreciation of a program is often related to the financial contribution to it The MDF application states that at minimum 50 of the cost of the program be supported by the host organization 10 Who approves expenditures from the MD Fund The Ministry Development Fund Committee consisting of a minimum of three people including at least 1 member from the Board of Directors considers the applications and approves use of funds Any outstanding circumstances can also be differed to the Board of directors for additional consideration In 2014 2 member of the Board of Directors are sitting on this committee Mike Stork can be reached at michael stork mytwu ca and Matt Unruh at matt mountainparkchurch ca 11 How can applications be made Applications must be made in writing using the Ministry Development Fund Application Form and may be submitted in hard copy or by electronic attachment to the committee The deadline for applications is April 25 2014 Funds will be disbursed in May 2014 12 What is the maximum amount of the funding available from the MD Fund A maximum of 50 000 will be available in 2014 The amount available in each subsequent year will be determined by Board of Directors and approved as a budget item at the annual convention by congregation delegates The maximum grant per application will be the lesser of 50 of the actual cost

    on the Ministry Questionnaire This in depth theological and personal questionnaire will demand thoughtful and prayerful reflection It will likely take some time to complete During this process three individuals should be selected by the candidate to fill in the Reference Forms A Criminal Record Check should also be acquired from local Police detachments current within the past 3 years is allowed 3 Required Readings Additionally the Candidate is asked to read two books and write brief reflections on each The first is the MB Confession of Faith Commentary and Pastoral Application ISBN 0 921788 62 2 The second is Family Matters Discovering the Mennonite Brethren by Lynn Jost Connie Faber ISBN 0 921788 74 6 Each can be purchased through Kindred Productions Alternate readings may be considered upon request You may view the MB Confession of Faith as well as our Digest Version 4 Personal Interview Completed questionnaires and book reflections are to be submitted to the ED FLT Chairperson Upon receipt the candidate will be notified of the next interview date and location These 2 hour interviews are conducted by two or more members of the FLT It is strongly encouraged that the candidate bring their Church Moderator or Lead Elder as a listening participant in the interview It is important that the candidate bring a signed copy of the Code of Ethical Conduct 5 Response from the Faith Life Team Shortly after the Credentialing Interview the FLT ED will meet and assess the candidate s suitability for Credentialing They will either grant the candidate his or her credentials or they may request that further steps be taken to complete the process They will further determine whether the candidate has been credentialed for Provincial or Local Credentialing status OCMBC Credencialing Categories Rubric PDF The FLT will also secure

    Youth Pastor Associate in a church plant lead pastor for 14 years at Evergreen and served as the Ontario Conference Minister For many of those years he has served on both provincial and national MB denominational boards and currently serves as chair of the Faith and Life Team and the Ontario rep on the Canadian Board of Faith and Life His passion is to equip every believer to be a missionary in their sphere of influence and to see the multiplication of disciples Richard has his BTh from Tyndale and part way through his 100 year plan to complete his Masters His lovely wife Laura has partnered with Richard in ministry for 30 years including the discipling of their 3 adult boys For fun Richard enjoys playing squash golf and riding motorcycles Ed Willms Executive Director Ed began in his role as Executive Director for the Ontario MB Conference in September 2012 Prior to that he was in Pastoral ministry for over 25 years Most recently he served as a location Leader for Southridge Community Church He planted Gateway Christian Fellowship in 2000 and was Lead Pastor until they joined Southridge in 2010 Earlier he served in pastoral roles at Scott Street MB Church in St Catharines and began his ministry at Cornerstone Community Church in Dartmouth N S back in 1986 Ed is happily married to high school sweetheart Karin and they have three daughters Kiersten married to Eric Renee and Breanna Ed has sensed a clear call of God to this new ministry assignment With a deep passion to see churches unite around a clear vision he has been working diligently to facilitate collaboration provide accountability and encourage blessing Although our churches are very unique and scattered across a vast province Ed believes strongly that God is doing a new work among these churches and that there is a very special and unique future ahead As there is a new focus on healthy aligning of passion and compassion Ed believes we will see many people won for Jesus in Ontario Ed gained a BRS from MBBC a BA from the University of Winnipeg and an MDiv from MBBS when it was still situated in sunny California Ed strives to be a life long learner and has taken many seminars and training events Most recently he has been certified as a COACH David Fowler Team Member Dave has been the founding planter and senior pastor of Life Point Church in Oshawa Ontario for the past 14 years He has been passionately focused on reaching non churched people and has led his team through various developments including contemporary and multisite ministry and the renovation build of a community centre Dave was drawn to the MB family because of the great focus on church planting and evangelism He has a B A in philosophy and psychology from the University of Waterloo a Master s of Christian Studies from Canadian Theological Seminary in biblical studies and counseling along with an M Ed

    Home About OCMBC Faith Life Team Church Health Resources The health of the churches of the Ontario MB Conference is one of the chief concerns of the Faith and Life Team We offer facilitation and coaching for two tools that are made to increase church health Natural Church Development NCD and Refocusing NATURAL CHURCH DEVELOPMENT Natural Church Development is a way of measuring the health or quality of a church By using a carefully prepared questionnaire with 30 members of a church the survey will determine the healthy of your church in 8 critical areas These quality characteristics are universally used in building healthy churches Empowering Leadership Gift oriented Ministry Passionate Spirituality Functional Structures Inspiring Worship Services Holistic Small Groups Need oriented Evangelism Loving Relationships The first word or phrase of each of the above characteristics is the key empowering gift oriented passionate functional etc The focus of this process is not only to identify the health of a church but to implement ways to actually strengthen the least healthy characteristics REFOCUSING Refocusing is a two phase envisioning process for church leaders and their churches to discover and clarify God s call on them in engaging their mission Phase one

    be accessed where the church is not in a financial position to provide adequate financial assistance themselves It is by no means intended to be the primary source of funding for the pastor and should be accessed only after the church has exhausted all other available financial resources B3 The fund is not to be used to help churches pay a pastor s salary or other standard compensation requirements as is normal for the position they hold B4 The pastor must be in good standing with the church at the time of the event or incident In order to receive the ongoing support of the EPSF the pastor does not have to remain part of the staff of the church In the case of marital infidelity for example the church might help pay for individual and or joint marital counselling but the pastor will have stepped down or been removed from his her official position B5 Support for any given situation should not exceed 2 500 a month and no more than 12 000 for 12 months from the time of the event or incident Support will not extend beyond 12 months B6 Churches accessing the EPSF must provide copies of their financial books to either the Faith and Life Team or Regional Church Extension Team depending on their accountability at either team s request B7 This remuneration from the employing church requires that it is reported by the employer as taxable income to the employee and the normal payroll deductions must be withheld The remuneration may be used within the established limits by the employing church to make payment of the amounts withheld from the employee and required employer portions to CRA C OVERSIGHT C1 Primary oversight of the fund is administered through the Faith and Life Team C2
