Windmill opponents demand province give power to municipalities Ottawa Citizen August 20 2013 A coalition of 62 communities in Ontario have declared themselves unwilling hosts to provincially approved windmills and they re demanding that Premier Kathleen Wynne s government allow municipal governments to choose whether and where to put industrial wind projects The Liberal government s 2009 Green Energy Act gave the province control over the location of wind energy projects but in May the province announced changes that will require developers to work more closely with municipalities To that end Wynne has asked the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association to raise awareness in communities slated for the turbine projects about the benefits of hosting including the financial gains that can This Week Candidates weigh in on energy issues By Scott Rosts ST CATHARINES Provincial candidates from St Catharines had their say on its party s position on the sustainable energy sector in one of the first opportunities to publicly debate issues Sustainable Energy champions from Kingston Frontenac and the Islands meet the candidates Kingston Ontario On Monday June 9 th Sophie Kiwala Liberal Robert Kiley Green Party Mary Rita Holland NDP and Jonathan Reid Freedom Party joined over 30 attendees at the Kingston Brew Pub for an evening of networking pints and discussion about the importance of green energy in the region Attending candidates participated in a short panel and were on hand to meet and speak with the attendees The event was hosted by the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association OSEA SWITCH and Sustainability Kingston Sustainable Energy champions from Oshawa meet the candidates Oshawa Ontario On Tuesday June 10 th Ryan Kelly NDP Stacey Leadbetter Green Party and Estrick Quintyn Liberal joined voters at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery for an evening of networking and discussion about the importance of green energy in the region Attending candidates participated
