  • OSEA: Economic Literacy for Environmental Leaders
    Leaders When Tuesday afternoons from 1 00PM to 4 30PM between April 7 and June 16 Where Centre for Social Innovation 215 Spadina Avenue Toronto ON M5T 2C7 Map The Economic Literacy Project ELP launches this spring with a series of six day training workshops in Toronto at the Centre for Social Innovation designed to build the capacity of environmental leaders to understand economic concepts and their role in a green economy The instructor of the program is Eric Miller a consulting ecological economist and contract faculty at York University He has experience serving the Ontario and Federal governments as a public servant and has helped hundreds of students through his teaching of undergraduate and graduate students at York University and Queen s University Eric earned economic degrees from York University and McMaster and a biology degree from Carleton He is an active member of Canadian Society for Ecological Economics Registration for the series is only 250 per person as the Economic Literacy Project is supported by a grant from the Ivey Foundation Space is limited April 7 Assessing the Promise and Perils of Markets April 21 Valuing the Priced and Unpriced Environment May 5 Rewarding Pro Environmental Behaviour May

    environmental career sector how they got started and what they suggest to individuals in search of an environmental career The Conservation Council of Ontario are pleased to partner with Career Skills Incubator CSCI to promote green careers Panelists Niloufar Bayani received her MSc in Biology from McGill University and her master s degree in Conservation Biology from Columbia University As a research fellow of the Wildlife Conservation Society she focused her thesis on coral reef conservation in the Caribbean in the face of climate change Since 2012 she has been working the United Nations Environment Programme UNEP as a consultant Primarily based in Geneva she has supported UNEP s teams in different countries to implements projects related to disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation through ecosystem management Elena Jusenlijska s professional portfolio includes founding T O s Eco Chase a sustainability focused annual scavenger hunt and coaching aspiring small business entrepreneurs at the Rotman School of Management Elena worked as a head hunter for a boutique search firm focused on cleantech sustainability environmentally focused roles She is currently the co founder and Chief Spark Plug at Better Current a company specializing in off grid solar energy systems In her day job she works in corporate engagement for an employment focused charity called ACCES Employment Pavel Graymason completed his Masters of Environmental Studies from York University Since then he s coordinated sustainability efforts for both York University and the University of Toronto He led the cross functional collaborative leadership team for a program that won an award for Environmental Excellence from the Ontario Minister of the Environment Most recently Pavel delivered an overhaul of U of T s suite of engagement programs more than doubling its staff volunteer base and completing a thorough revision of its digital content and print

    Workshops and Tours When March 25 and 26 2015 Where Courtyard Hamilton 1224 Upper James Street Hamilton ON L9C 3B1 Map Tour registration required A tour of four biogas systems will take place March 26 2015 starting and ending in at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Hamilton 1224 Upper James St and all participants travel to the four locations listed below by tour bus Lunch is provided The tour costs 50 for members and 75 for non members Note that hard hats safety boots and goggles are required for the Toronto site About the 2015 Program The Biogas Association is proud to present a comprehensive new program this year that is designed to help potential new operators from different sectors understand the opportunity and benefits associated with biogas systems and address their concerns through detailed information and analysis and lessons learned from existing operators The events also meet the needs of operators with existing systems that are striving to learn more and optimize their systems The 2015 Value of Biogas Workshops Resources and Tours will bring together members invite the participation of non members and will help expand the industry The events will be held in Hamilton Ontario on March 25 and 26 2015 Workshops The program will focus on timely and informative topics related to biogas and will include engaging speakers There will also be an opportunity for great networking among peers and industry representatives There will be three separate workshop streams on March 25 one for municipalities and larger producers focused on electricity development a second stream for municipalities and large producers and haulers focused on RNG as a vehicle fuel and a third for agricultural sector developers and operators The workshops are based in part from content derived from new detailed printed resources See the agenda below
