standard dimension can be changed for each section or each article i e a technical section may have a larger standard image size than a section housing updates This is fairly convenient since the tag of a technical image can be dropped in multiple sections and is then automatically dimensioned to the standard of each section So basically there is no redimensioning images by hand at all unless you want smaller than the standards in which case by default Spip will not resize upwards Naturally every dimension a image appears as is cached For whatever platform is chosen this automatic resizing I think would be a good feature for OSE which is fairly image oriented Also title description etc can be added to the image which we can make appear underneath or on rollover or whatever globally or depending on the section it is in Also Spip is oriented folder wise just as it anyones computer so back office you re presented with a bunch of folders and sub folders and if you have admin rights to a folder you can make infinite sub folders The webmasters then take care of having the articles in every folder automatically appear where they re supposed to If setup correctly all the contributors do navigate to the relevant folder create and article and hit save All this functionality could of course be either programed in another framework or may be available in a CMS Though I think it would be particularly easy in Spip this may be a matter of opinion For those interested the documentation is http programmer spip org IMG pdf documentation en pdf I also set up a small example at http eerik opensourceecology org You can create an account at http eerik opensourceecology org ecrire you must click register at the bottom and but your email address in then it emails you access and automatically creates a folder you can publish in All the details can be changed also for now there is no lblogs template setup so publishing won t really appear publically it s just to give a basic idea of the system Vote Up 0 Vote Down mjn June 2011 Permalink I tried it Didn t work Vote Up 0 Vote Down elifarley June 2011 Permalink I ve gone to http eerik opensourceecology org ecrire and clicked on register then I entered my name and my email and submited the form this brought up this message Your new identifier has just been sent to you by e mail After about 2 minutes no email has arrived at my inbox Maybe there s a problem on the mail server Is it Exim Vote Up 0 Vote Down mjn June 2011 Permalink I got the email at least Eerik said It seems the server no longer points at the folder Spip is in It seems Elifarley may have used it to test the wiki then pointed it back to the wrong place as http eerik openfarmtech org now

  • team members, please wrap your heads around "agile" development - Open Source Ecology Forums
this just fine Most OS contributors are comfortable with change in my experience In sum Vann we need to give some thought to how agile development techniques apply to OS hardware It is a mistake to think that techniques that work well for software will work equally well for hardware I think to some extent we are charting new ground here Given that this particular project is focused on the tools that will foster and guide OSE projects we should consider the bigger picture This includes an examination of the OSE project development process Mark Vote Up 0 Vote Down vann June 2011 Permalink Agile does require a shift in perspective It doesn t happen overnight but I m not here to debate it it s the methodology Marcin has adapted and we all need to learn more about it and how to apply it We are our own customers stakeholders business people at first Any deliverable including documentation is accommodated there s no reason that docs can only be produced via waterfall methods Changing requirements and short development cycles are also there in hardware world Marcin went through one physical prototype of a PowerCube and several design prototypes in just the two weeks that I was there Trust can be built up over time as people earn merit rather than say when hiring via interviews Really all these objections seem to stem from unfamiliarity with agile development I m not saying however that no thought has to be put into it but I encourage you to start with an open mind not primarily a skeptical one Start putting tasks into your own Pivotal project Start with the simplest user story possible like build a steam engine and iteratively refine it and break it down it should produce 3kw of power ecause that s what s required to drive our tools it should be made from steel because we can get steel locally cheap or whatever then break it down further etc etc all the requirements of documenting promoting it and when you work on the project and you ll soon find how deceptively powerful this style of thinking is with a lot less overhead spent planning and following fixed process these processes that are being written haven t been followed yet even marcin has noted he didn t follow his own processes requirements user stories requests are fine but trying to connect a bunch of arrows between them is not adaptive this is all a learning process for each of us if we allow the process to be dynamic and let pivotal enforce the minimal process of making and fuliflling requests we ll test this style and learn firsthand about agile development and all be better informed to comment on it Vote Up 0 Vote Down mjn June 2011 Permalink I think you re being a bit unfair Vann You seem to be forming the opinion that I m against an agile approach I m not You also imply

thread What sort of framework are you looking for Do you have specific capabilities in mind Mark Vote Up 0 Vote Down vann June 2011 Permalink Yes an iframe is the first thing everyone thinks of Elifarley said the wiki can t be subsumed it already uses iframes I notice but I haven t looked beyond that into it feel free to do so I ll add it to Pivotal I d much prefer not to have to make two templates I think you re already very familiar with the scope of this project the project overview pages for each tool with each page hooking into multiple web services like Pivotal Holla Campfire either embedding or linking them or using their APIs Users would be associated with CiviCRM records These project pages are also tied in with Eerik s blogosphere idea Most of these components have APIs And like me you re also a web developer Which web frameworks are you familiar with How would you approach it Would you use an MVC framework or an event driven framework Vann Vote Up 0 Vote Down mjn June 2011 Permalink If the project overview page is just a launching point for various services then I doubt it needs the power of any particular framework While I m familiar with both model view controller and event driven frameworks why use a hammer on a push pin I am a great believer in simplicity What are the requirements that call for anything beyond a simple list of links Mark Add a Comment Howdy Stranger It looks like you re new here If you want to get involved click one of these buttons Sign In Apply for Membership Categories All Discussions 1 013 General Discussion 895 Introductions 145 GVCS Development 43 GVCS Replication 14
