  • Biography of Isidoro Zorzano - Opus Dei
life In 1927 he finished his schooling in engineering in Madrid His application to his studies and his spirit of service made him an example for all his colleagues These qualities stood out in a still more evident way during his years of professional practice In a time of social and ideological conflicts in Spain Isidoro was deeply respected by both his professional colleagues and the laborers at the railroad company where he worked because of his professional competence and his spirit of sacrifice Out of a desire to please God and an eagerness to bring many souls closer to him he also dedicated time and effort to teaching to involvement in professional associations and to social and welfare initiatives in poor neighborhoods On August 24 1930 he asked for admission to Opus Dei He was one of the first members and he always gave a luminous example of fidelity to God s call in the middle of the world From 1936 to 1939 during the religious persecution unleashed in Spain and the ensuing civil war he displayed heroic courage Notwithstanding the danger he was in because he was known as a devout Catholic he used the freedom of movement he had as a citizen of Argentina to provide spiritual and material help to many people including the members of Opus Dei who were hidden in various parts of Madrid or locked up in jail At the beginning of the forties he first began to experience the symptoms of the illness that led to his death malignant lymphogranulomatosis His union with our Lord grew day by day during his prolonged suffering Doctors nurses and religious who treated him were amazed at the spiritual cheerfulness with which he bore his acute pain He died on July 15 1943 after having received

  • Favors received from prayers to Isidoro Zorzano - Opus Dei
a routine operation but it was going to be very expensive and my medical insurance wouldn t cover the cost I entrusted the matter to Isidoro Zorzano s intercession with a lot of faith because his holy life edified me especially how he heroically practiced the virtue of poverty to the point of his concern to cover the expenses during his final illness The day of my operation I received a phone call from the insurance company saying that they would take care of all my hospital expenses I m convinced that this favor was due to Isidoro s intercession I continue to ask him for things and pray for his prompt beatification M N O Unexpected groceries How thankful I should be to Isidoro said my wife the mother of a large family that has known severe economic hardship at one point food and even light have been lacking and we ve had to use candles One night we all said the prayer for private devotion to a certain Isidoro Zorzano We don t even know where the prayer card came from Soon afterwards and quite unexpectedly a brother from the order of St John of God provided us with a large supply of groceries and vegetables The following day a relative of ours resolved some other pressing needs for us Since then my wife has continued to say the prayer for private devotion to Isidoro And he doesn t let us down J C C A good harvest An Aragonese friend with a large farm in the province of Castellón Spain told me that his family has a long standing devotion to Isidoro One afternoon the weather turned ugly and hail threatened to destroy their wheat crop It grew dark and when the first raindrops fell the family
