  • Positive density-dependent reproduction regulated by local kinship and size in an understorey tropical tree
more viable seeds although this positive density effect was influenced by variance inflation with increasing local kinship Neighbourhood density did not have significant effects on siring success Conclusions This study is one of the first to reveal an interaction among tree size conspecific density and local kinship as critical factors differentially influencing maternal and paternal reproductive success We show that both maternal and paternal reproductive success should be evaluated to determine the population level and individual traits most essential for plant reproduction In addition to conserving large trees we suggest the inclusion of small trees and the conservation of dense patches with low kinship as potential strategies for strengthening the reproductive status of tropical trees Key words local kinship positive density dependence seed abortion siring success spatial genetic structure tropical tree The Author 2015 Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the Annals of Botany Company All rights reserved For Permissions please email journals permissions oup com Related articles ContentSnapshots Content Snapshots Ann Bot 2016 117 2 i iii doi 10 1093 aob mcv196 Extract Full Text HTML Full Text PDF Previous Next Article Table of Contents This Article Ann Bot 2016 117 2 319 329 doi 10 1093 aob mcv170 First published online November 24 2015 Abstract Free Free Figures Free Full Text HTML Full Text PDF Supplementary Data All Versions of this Article mcv170v1 117 2 319 most recent Classifications Original Article Services Article metrics Alert me when cited Alert me if corrected Alert me if commented Find similar articles Similar articles in Web of Science Similar articles in PubMed Add to my archive Download citation Request Permissions Responses Submit a response No responses published Citing Articles Load citing article information Citing articles via CrossRef Citing articles via Scopus Citing articles via Web of Science Google Scholar Articles by Castilla A R Articles by Jha S PubMed PubMed citation Articles by Castilla A R Articles by Pope N Articles by Jha S Agricola Articles by Castilla A R Articles by Jha S Related Content Related articles in this journal Load related web page information Share Email this article CiteULike Delicious Facebook Google Mendeley Twitter What s this Search this journal Advanced Current Issue February 2016 117 2 Alert me to new issues The Journal About this journal Annals of Botany Collections AoB article attracts media coverage We are mobile find out more Journals Career Network Published on behalf of The Annals of Botany Company Impact factor 3 654 5 Yr impact factor 4 338 Eigenfactor 0 02603 Rank 10 200 SCImago Score 1 461 Rank 124 1873 Chief Editor Professor J S Pat Heslop Harrison View full editorial board International Review Board For Authors Submitting a manuscript online Self archiving policy Instructions for authors Low Rate Open Access Fees Open access options for authors visit Oxford Open Visit HighWire Press 3hWaciBYRk30rSOQ7UOpP6viAxsZnEle true Looking for your next opportunity Looking for jobs Alerting Services Email table of contents Email Advance Access CiteTrack XML RSS feed Rights Permissions This journal

  • Variation in style morph frequencies in tristylous Lythrum salicaria in the Iberian Peninsula: the role of geographical and demographic factors
associated with latitude with smaller populations and those with less even morph ratios occurring towards the south Greater variance in morph evenness was evident at the southern range margin There were no consistent differences in components of reproductive fitness among style morphs but southern populations produced less fruit and seed than more northerly populations Conclusions Our results demonstrate the influence of finite population size on morph frequencies in L salicaria However they also illustrate the resilience of Iberian populations to the factors causing deviations from isoplethy and morph loss especially at the southern range limit where populations are smaller The maintenance of tristyly in small populations of L salicaria may be aided by the genetic connectivity of populations in agricultural landscapes resulting from gene flow through pollen and seed dispersal Key words Frequency dependent selection genetic drift Iberian Peninsula isoplethy Lythrum salicaria population size range limits stochastic forces tristyly The Author 2015 Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the Annals of Botany Company All rights reserved For Permissions please email journals permissions oup com Related articles ContentSnapshots Content Snapshots Ann Bot 2016 117 2 i iii doi 10 1093 aob mcv196 Extract Full Text HTML Full Text PDF Previous Next Article Table of Contents This Article Ann Bot 2016 117 2 331 340 doi 10 1093 aob mcv173 First published online December 9 2015 Abstract Free Free Figures Free Full Text HTML Full Text PDF Supplementary Data All Versions of this Article mcv173v1 117 2 331 most recent Classifications Original Article Services Article metrics Alert me when cited Alert me if corrected Alert me if commented Find similar articles Similar articles in Web of Science Similar articles in PubMed Add to my archive Download citation Request Permissions Responses Submit a response No responses published Citing Articles Load citing article information Citing articles via CrossRef Citing articles via Scopus Citing articles via Web of Science Google Scholar Articles by Costa J Articles by Barrett S C H PubMed PubMed citation Articles by Costa J Articles by Castro S Articles by Loureiro J Articles by Barrett S C H Agricola Articles by Costa J Articles by Barrett S C H Related Content Related articles in this journal Load related web page information Share Email this article CiteULike Delicious Facebook Google Mendeley Twitter What s this Search this journal Advanced Current Issue February 2016 117 2 Alert me to new issues The Journal About this journal Annals of Botany Collections AoB article attracts media coverage We are mobile find out more Journals Career Network Published on behalf of The Annals of Botany Company Impact factor 3 654 5 Yr impact factor 4 338 Eigenfactor 0 02603 Rank 10 200 SCImago Score 1 461 Rank 124 1873 Chief Editor Professor J S Pat Heslop Harrison View full editorial board International Review Board For Authors Submitting a manuscript online Self archiving policy Instructions for authors Low Rate Open Access Fees Open access options for authors visit Oxford Open Visit HighWire Press 3hWaciBYRk30rSOQ7UOpP6viAxsZnEle true
