    4081 ijas 2015 3976 Maria Grazia Cappai Dipartimento di Agraria University of Sassari Italy mgcappai uniss it Maurizio Picciau Dipartimento per la Ricerca e l Incremento Ippico Regione Autonoma della Sardegna Ozieri SS Italy Giuseppa Nieddu Dipartimento di Agraria University of Sassari Italy Ilaria Sogos Dipartimento di Agraria University of Sassari Italy Raffaele Cherchi Dipartimento per la Ricerca e l Incremento Ippico Regione Autonoma della Sardegna Ozieri SS Italy Walter Pinna Dipartimento di Agraria University of Sassari Italy Abstract L tyrosine L Tyr is a conditionally indispensable amino acid for Equids The biologic role of L Tyr is ubiquitous being involved in the production of hair and skin pigments The white donkeys of Asinara island display a peculiar white coat with life long hypopigmentation of skin hairs and eyes Our results underline how the white phenotype is due to a disorder of melanin biosynthesis detected in skin biopsies and on hair bulbs through immunohistochemical and enzymatic assays The metabolic pathway of L Tyr is compatible with the clinical frame of ocular cutaneous albinism OCA The enzymatic activity in hair bulbs for the conversion of L Tyr to L 3 4 dihydroxyphenilalanine L DOPA tested negative but positive for L DOPA conversion into eumelanin in the 100 of the Asinara s white donkey This is the case of a negative tyrosinase albinism which contemporarily excludes dietary deficiencies of phenylalanine Phe or L Tyr and potential incapability of Tyr intestinal uptake or Tyr conversion from Phe The tyrosinase TYR residual activity positively and significantly P 0 012 correlates P 0 897 with the albino phenotype of the Asinara s white donkey These results definitely point to the fact that Asinara s white donkey population owes its phenotype to TYR residual activity thus on genetic basis From a comparative point of view the

    Marek Vrabec Department of Food Hygiene and Technology University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice Slovakia Viera Lovayová Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice Slovakia Katarína Dudriková Clinic of Horses University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice Slovakia Juraj Gallo Department of Food Hygiene and Technology University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice Slovakia Eva Dudriková Department of Food Hygiene and Technology University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice Slovakia eva dudrikova uvlf sk Abstract The study aimed at determining the prevalence antibiotic resistance of species identified enterococci and Escherichia E coli isolated from typical fresh Slovak cheese bryndza Antibiotic resistance of enterococci was determined by disk diffusion method Of isolated enterococci 240 were obtained from bryndza cheese The first two decimal dilutions from 24 bryndza cheese samples purchased at supermarkets in Košice 0 1 mL were spread on the surface of Slanetz and Bartley agar and incubated for 48 2 h at 37 1ºC Species identification of enterococci and E coli was detected by means of matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry MALDI TOF MS based on bacterial protein profiling The following species of enterococci were identified by MALDI TOF MS Enterococcus Ent faecalis 22 strains Ent faecium 18 strains Ent sacharolyticus 6 strains Ent gilvus 4 strains Ent durans 9 strains and Ent casseliflavus 6 strains All of the 45 E coli strains and 74 strains of enterococci identified by MALDI TOF MS were determined for occurrence of bla TEM bla SHV and bla CTX M genes The results of our study suggest that the highest resistance of enterococci was on tetracycline 29 73 and any resistance was recorded on vancomycin 0 The highest multidrug resistance was recorded on two antibiotics 32 43 Neither one isolate of enterococci was resistant

    10 4081 ijas 2015 4089 Luca Todini Scuola di Bioscienze e Medicina Veterinaria University of Camerino Italy luca todini unicam it Elisabetta Salimei Dipartimento di Agricoltura Ambiente Alimenti University of Molise Campobasso Italy Alessandro Malfatti Scuola di Bioscienze e Medicina Veterinaria University of Camerino Italy Valeria L Brunetti Scuola di Bioscienze e Medicina Veterinaria University of Camerino Italy Francesco Fantuz Scuola di Bioscienze e Medicina Veterinaria University of Camerino Italy Abstract Thyroid hormones TH are the primary endocrine stimulators of non shivering thermogenesis and are known to stimulate lactation Triiodothyronine T3 is the bioactive form mainly derived by deiodination of thyroxine T4 and the free quote unbound to plasma proteins is immediately bioavailable This study aimed to evaluate potential relationships among TH in the blood triiodothyronine in the milk T3M milk yield and environmental temperature in March to July for 8 lactating donkeys Milk yield and blood TH concentrations changed significantly over time whereas T3M was rather stable among individuals and not affected by time of sampling Free T3 was not correlated with free T4 or with total TH in the blood but it was weakly correlated with T3M No relationship was found between blood TH and milk yield which was negatively correlated with T3M Thus the absolute quantity of bioactive hormone in milk secretion is maintained Milk yield was positively correlated with the free total T3 and free T3 free T4 ratios thus in turn with the relative quote of the circulating bioactive hormone Circulating T3 T4 ratios were negatively correlated with environmental temperature It is concluded that environmental temperature in the range of the present study 2 to 35 C does not significantly entrain thyroid gland activity which is affected more by other factors such as inter individual variations and physiological status i e stage of lactation However
