pay homage to the those books that have made such an impact on their lives Authors and artists may reference favorite books in their own books die hard fans might write their own fan fiction or create an online book trailer I ve seen people even go for more permanent homage like getting a tattoo featuring a book character or quotation naming a restaurant after a favorite or even your own child after a special character or book I hadn t really thought about this until this weekend when Norton Juster did an event at this store Even days before the book signing customers in anticipation were telling me their personal stories of how The Phantom Tollbooth had changed their life Two two different customers had named their sons Milo after the main character in the book Even Eric Carle was impacted enough to name his dog Tock after the Tollbooth s watchdog I get to hear a lot of these special stories working here Stepping inside our bookstore you see all the books like old friends sitting on the shelves that you remember from your childhood and you know that the booksellers here are kindred book loving spirits They tell me about the books that have changed their life Alice in Wonderland Harold and the Purple Crayon or Where the Wild Things Are I love hearing how these books have impacted their childhood their career choices the way they saw things from then on I grew up with so many books that I don t think I have just one that I can say has made an enormous impact At least not yet But what about you by Eliza Brown Tags eric carle favorite books norton juster phantom tollbooth tattoos This entry was posted on Wednesday February 23rd 2011 at 11 24 am and is filed under Musings You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS 2 0 feed You can leave a response or trackback from your own site Leave a reply Your name Mail will not be published Website Share CAPTCHA This question is for testing whether or not you are a human visitor and to prevent automated spam submissions Contributors Eliza Brown Categories A Closer Look 1 Authors Illustrators 50 Book Finder 4 Book Lists by Theme 65 Books for Ages 0 3 35 Books for Ages 3 6 86 Books for Ages 6 12 37 Books for Teens Adults 10 Books We Love 42 Books Holiday Seasonal 17 Books Non Fiction 5 Books Poetry 3 Bookselling 15 Caterpillar Reviews 1 Children s Book Industry News 38 Events at The Carle 107 Exhibitions at The Carle 18 Friday Favorite 7 Gift Ideas 6 Giveaways 24 Just for Fun 11 Media 11 Musings 28 Picture Book Puzzlers 88 Products We Love 16 Recommended Books 165 Resources 5 Top of the Shelf 109 Archive December 2015 6 September 2015 1 February 2015 1 October 2014 1 September 2014 2 July 2014 3 June 2014 4

averaging less than a sentence a page much like Henke s Caldecott Award winning Kitten s First Full Moon will appeal especially to young children The story is an adventure away from home but without Peter Rabbit s naughtiness This rabbit hops along with bouncy hope exercising his imagination which is not so much a vehicle for fantasy as compassion which seems Kevin Henke s sort of imagination too Little White Rabbit wonders what it would be like to be green like grass or tall like trees as still as a rock or to flutter like butterflies before he ends up safe at home where while his brothers and sisters sleep he s the bunny with the roving eye The front cover is pink and the back is green under the book jacket and green and pink dominate from clover and rabbit nose through grass and trees We can almost smell spring Buy Little White Rabbit or read on for more Top of the Shelf book reviews by Jeannine Tags adventure bunny green kevin henkes pink rabbits spring white This entry was posted on Tuesday February 22nd 2011 at 7 02 am and is filed under Recommended Books Top of the Shelf You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS 2 0 feed You can leave a response or trackback from your own site Leave a reply Your name Mail will not be published Website Share CAPTCHA This question is for testing whether or not you are a human visitor and to prevent automated spam submissions JasonsMama says February 12 2016 at 3 21pm a beautiful book but unfortunately does not exist in our bookcase reply Contributors Eliza Brown Categories A Closer Look 1 Authors Illustrators 50 Book Finder 4 Book Lists by Theme 65 Books for Ages 0 3 35 Books for Ages 3 6 86 Books for Ages 6 12 37 Books for Teens Adults 10 Books We Love 42 Books Holiday Seasonal 17 Books Non Fiction 5 Books Poetry 3 Bookselling 15 Caterpillar Reviews 1 Children s Book Industry News 38 Events at The Carle 107 Exhibitions at The Carle 18 Friday Favorite 7 Gift Ideas 6 Giveaways 24 Just for Fun 11 Media 11 Musings 28 Picture Book Puzzlers 88 Products We Love 16 Recommended Books 165 Resources 5 Top of the Shelf 109 Archive December 2015 6 September 2015 1 February 2015 1 October 2014 1 September 2014 2 July 2014 3 June 2014 4 May 2014 5 April 2014 5 March 2014 11 February 2014 3 January 2014 2 November 2013 1 September 2013 4 August 2013 2 July 2013 2 June 2013 2 May 2013 1 April 2013 1 March 2013 5 February 2013 6 January 2013 6 December 2012 8 November 2012 1 October 2012 1 September 2012 7 August 2012 5 July 2012 4 May 2012 8 April 2012 3 March 2012 10 February 2012 12 January 2012 14 December 2011 9 November 2011 16 October 2011 14
