  • Chorus / Chorus
    PERFORM The purpose of this letter is to inform you of all chorus expectations I am excited to start the new year sing new music and meet new students The purpose of chorus class is to teach you to perform using your best abilities The course is designed to build your musicality inspire you to perform with expression and sing with proper vocal techniques It s always amazing to watch the students final performances in vibrant harmonies and note their growth throughout the year There are six sections of chorus this year so be sure to look at your schedule thoroughly Some of you will attend class every day while others might split chorus between other related arts such as band and physical education There are typically no homework assignments for chorus There are two mandatory concerts during the school year One will be right before winter break and the other will be in late spring Concert attendance will be 30 of your chorus grade see chart below Both concerts will be held at the West High School auditorium There will be opportunities for solos choreography dancers small groups song announcers and more I will notify you when auditions and sign ups are so that you will have plenty of time to prepare Last year the chorus competed in the High Note Festival in Allentown PA and won a superior rating Hopefully the weather will cooperate with us this year and we can attend Dorney Park after our adjudication The music department also went to NYC and participated in a Broadway Theatre workshop It was a spectacular day After the workshop we ate dinner at Jekyll Hyde s and viewed the Broadway production Cinderella To help lower the cost of these field trips we will hold two fundraisers throughout the

    to better promote the library Getting your teenager to read can sometimes be a daunting task Here are some things to remember Try to avoid Pressuring nagging or bribing Encourage teens to read but don t hound them Criticizing what teens read Explain what troubles you about certain types of reading materials after reading them yourself Forbid as little as possible And whenever you can accept differences of opinion as just that Lavishing too much praise If you catch your teenagers reading show interest but don t make a big deal out of it Teens need to know that they re reading for their own pleasure not for your approval Ways to encourage teens to read Set an example Let teens see you reading for pleasure Furnish your home with a variety of reading materials Leave books magazines and newspapers around Check to see what disappears for a clue to what interests your teenager Give teens an opportunity to choose their own books When you and your teen are out together browse in a bookstore or library Go your separate ways and make your own selections A bookstore gift certificate is a nice way of saying You choose Build on your teen s interests Look for books and articles that feature their favorite sports teams musicians hobbies or television shows Give a gift subscription to a special interest magazine Newly Added Books Tales from a not so talented pop star by Rachel Renée Russell Fiction When scholarship student Nikki Maxwell whose father is the school exterminator decides to enter the talent show at her expensive private school her nemesis MacKenzie threatens to reveal Nikki s status to the rest of the school Dork Diaries 3 Comments 1 Tales from a not so popular party girl by Rachel Renee Russell Fiction
