  • School to Work Program / Overview
    students that receive Lifeskills Support and Full Time Learning Support at the senior high level are the main participants of the program The Pocono Mountain School to Work program has three main components functional academics community based instruction and independent living skills Functional academics focus mainly on reading writing and math skills using research based curriculum and applying practical skills Community based instruction involves supervising students in real life vocational experiences within the district and out in the community with participating local businesses Independent living skills will help prepare students for everyday life after graduation focusing on self sufficiency in domestic and personal skills There are currently 30 students working within the program between the ages of 17 21 years old The teachers of the program are Steven A Werner and Jerry Greeley both who have been teaching students with special needs for many years There are 5 paraprofessionals who work within the classroom as well all who have many years of experience as well in addition there are other one on one paraprofessionals TSS workers nurses etc to help all students be successful The program consists of students rotating across classroom and vocational routines on a daily basis It runs during regular school hours utilizing district transportation to and from district and community work sites The class is divided into two groups one group receives their functional academics while the other is receiving their vocational training both eat lunch together and subsequently switch tasks Prior to any student participating in their identified work experiences instruction is given to emphasize those skills necessary for securing employment and participating in community activities The Pocono Mountain School to Work program is reliant on many facets of the community including Tri County Mental Health and Disability Services East Stroudsburg University Devereux Program and

    in a new non competitive format that focuses on entertainment camaraderie various styles of performances and audience interaction concluding a mass band performance with all of the participating bands Just think 400 500 band members on the field playing the chart together from various schools If you are a band director that would like to bring your group you can register at www tinyurl com PMEMOtM16 For more information you can contact Mr Eick at teick pmsd org On May 21 the marching band will travel to Allentown to perform at the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks game at the PPL Center Any students interested in joining the Marching Band in the 2016 17 season can sign up at www tinyurl com PMEMB2016 Concert Band PME was honored to have sent 7 selected students to Marywood University for the Sr Wind Band Celebration Students re auditioned on arrival and were split into two bands Honor Band and Celebration Band Two students Reannon Zangakis and Gene Boone were excepted into the Honor s band after re audition and Vishal Forde Tori Padmos Reagan Withey Sarah Stettler and Amber Dailey were excepted into the Celebration Band Congratulations to those 7 students Jazz Band In February The Jazz Ensemble traveled to the ArtsQuest center in Bethlehem and participated in the Steelstacks Jazz Showcase sponsored by Moravian College The jazz band walked away with a rating of Excellent only points from a Superior rating There next performance will be on the Music Department Trip to Virginia Beach in April followed by hosting the PME Jazz Festival at Pocono Mountian East HIgh School on April 29 with 8 visiting jazz ensembles from various schools They will wrap up their season with their SPRING FLING BIG SWING DANCE held in SEC on May 27 Come out and swing
