stickies in Govt if they were ever in the IRA Answer it ain t got nothing to do with any genuine motives on their part The fact is that the less well off in society are facing a horrid future and have no one other than SF to stand by them So SF will be a better party for leaving the South Dublin middle class to the other parties who re stupid enough to imagine that they can gain masses of seats by kissing middle class ass and giving the two fingers to the unemployed and sick I find it baffling how sticky Labourites get away so soft It s a pity the south Dublin constituents haven t shown the fairness I think they have Most people are reporting a least worst option to vote for rather than actually displaying enthusiasm for anyone in particular Sinn Fein have a good bunch of relatively egalitarian policies and seem the most organised of those attempting to represent the least well off in society I will give them that I also like their all island long term re unification plan However the reality I have to report is that anyone I speak to offline appears to be outraged by the Slab issue I admit that most of the people I am related to hang out with work with would count as middle class in terms of what they do now not necessarily in terms of the backgrounds they came from Few if any would make more than 100k per annum and most much less not the uber elite in other words The inference I would draw from this is that it will lead to transfer problems for SF in at least half of Dublin constituencies Can t comment on anywhere else You may not like it but it is what I am hearing My own opinion is slightly less harsh I m not at all bothered by Slab Murphy s former IRA status that war has been over a while I m not terribly happy that he s not paying tax and the whole fuel laundering scene in the Border needs cleaning up It s 18 years since the peace process former volunteers should be in politics or running legit businesses at this point If they aren t then tough As Mary Lou said Tom Murphy should be paying his taxes And is it really terribly wise to be suggesting abolition of The SCC after the hotel bloodbath Timing is everything Last edited by morticia There are only 40 constituencies In many of the less established SF areas there will be a large amount of candidates of all hues The first preference counts will be very messy with a huge spread of candidates from poll toppers to also rans In that environment getting over 12 in 4 and 5 seaters would likely put the SF candidate in the seat winning places on the first count while the FG and FF vote will be spread quite thin between multiple runners With a reasonable transfer on Geography alone from establishment candidates to back up a decent transfer to SF from the Ind Other it gives a single SF candidate the chance to take a seat that a multiple candidate strategy would blow You ll see where SF are running multiple candidates that they re running them where they ve a seat in the bag and a reasonable chance of another one there as well It suits SF where the brand is the pulling power for many new candidates they re running For FG and FF the opposite is the case they re running multiple known candidates from an established patch in a few particular parts of constituency Their vote is much more that of established fiefdoms and is very clientele based Reply With Quote Today 11
