    justified as one can see and enjoy everything from this point Enjoy the green view the singing of the nightingale of the rustle of the running water in the creeks of the valleys cultivated with fruit bearing trees Here next to the playground the love of the people of Polystipos and of the expatriates has helped build a monument to honor two heroes from Polystipos that died during the Liberation Struggle 1955 1959 namely Christos Tsiartas and Andreas Panayiotou This monument was built to honor them since they gave their lives their most precious asset for Freedom The statues of the two men that are the main part of the monument send out the message to all visitors that there are immortal values worth fighting for for all Greeks that are responsible and honorable citizens such as Freedom and dignity to offer ones life is necessary for the protection of these ideals The love of Polystipos inhabitants and expatriates towards our missing persons of 1974 and their families has us all waiting for 33 years to learn about what happened to our four missing lads Andreas Argyrou Panayiotis Pavlou Loizos Sokratous and Renos Ch Hadjiloizou Polystipos anticipates hearing news about

    with water this is where the inhabitants grow vegetables such as tomatoes cucumbers lettuce cabbage potatoes and many more These coexist with walnuts fig trees pomegranate trees peach trees There used to be a spring with water every ten steps in the old days Staring our walk from Vrysi we follow a downhill road on the footpath paved with slabs On our right and left there are water channels for the irrigation of vegetables and fruit bearing trees During May the blossomed pomegranate trees carry thousands of little red flowers Heading straight we shall meet a small crossroad We follow its right part and keep straight We have already entered Paradise It is covered in green and the sweet voiced nightingale is heard everywhere On our left stands a hill covered in walnuts and many more fruit bearing trees Many birds will accompany you during your walk The footpath takes a turn towards the northeast Grass and wildflowers are seen everywhere It is a true paradise with wild flowers such as cyclamens violets and trees such as apple trees peach trees and hazelnut trees whose trunks are filled with a kind of wildflower known as Virgin Mary s tears that has a unique scent and is seen at the beginning of spring We are approaching the creek of Makrouli A huge walnut tree stands right next to it We follow a small uphill road On our right and left we can see almond trees and if it is March their scent will enchant us We have reached the end of the footpath and the small square at the end of small roadway The cherry and apple trees of mrs Vgenio and the oak tree of Marikkou are right in front of us We shall take a rest for a few

    surrounding areas have developed strong love help and family bonds Family was always close and inextricably connected They were proud to be Greek and Orthodox Even though they were dominated by Turks for 800 years they preserved their identity This success was owed to the priests of Polystipos and the surrounding area and the Greek Orthodox Church and its representatives in general The Church always managed to educate teach and spiritually cultivate its flock and especially the rich and those who were to rule the community Thus the community was always governed by honest virtuous and just people The protectors of the village Saint Nicolas and Apostle Andreas always served as inspirations protectors and helpers for the inhabitants of Polystipos for many centuries Virgin Mary was also always present and protected the people pf Polystipos as they never abandon her and keep her in their hearts The success of the inhabitants of the community to keep their Greek orthodox identity is owned to their continuous and strong struggle against intruders that could harm their deep faith in religion their Greek orthodox roots and their ancient and powerful tradition their filled with nobility and superiority Homeric customs and traditions d The struggle against all forms of tyranny and oppression took on many forms and had started from the very first moment the Louzinians and then the Venetians the Ottomans and finally the British When the Greeks were fighting for their liberty in 1821 the Cypriots participated in the struggle and Polystipos contributed a lot to this struggle According to reliable sources at least 4 men born in Polystipos during the 18th century were members of the Friendly Society Filiki Eteria and were initiated around 1816 Two of them were Hadjiyiorkis Kourtellas and Hadjichristofis Matsikkis that were decisive members of the Society and offered in many ways during the struggle of 21 According to information these 4 young men from Polystipos fought as volunteers in Greece during the revolution and no one returned to Cyprus According to some people Ioannikios recruited men from Polystipos to fight during the Revolution of Kalogiros 1830 1832 according to some 22 young men for the battles in Trikomo and according to some others 24 or 28 The Holy Monastery of Apostle Andreas in Polystipos helped the revolution in many ways During the First World War Cyprus was called to defend freedom and Polystipos participated Many young men joined the mule driver body and fought at the Macedonian frontier in Thrace and in other places Amongst them Antonios Michael Kourris Aristodemos Michael Nicola Sippi Ioannis Father Christoforou later Father Ioannis Ch Lofitis Ioannis Hadjiyiorki Chorometris Xenophon Hadjistylli Moudourou Agathoclis Hadjichristodoulou Georgios Hadjichristodoulou It is possible that we are forgetting some people and we ask for the forgiveness of their families During the events of 1931 the abrupt and sudden events and the intense protest of all Greek Cypriots against the colonial regime the events at the government house that followed with victims from both sides two men

    kind of oak trees a bush that rarely becomes a tree evergreen with deep green leaves known as latzia or quercus alnifolia On the same altitude stands the invisible a tree similar to a cypress that grows slowly its wood is soft and has an intense scent On some slopes the visitor can see dense Venetian sumac plants known as rouda locally Further down one can see pinus nigra trees with their deep green leaves and then the kingdom of pinus halepensis trees Then follows the kingdom of oak trees or klados as it is known here by the elderly There used to be an ancient forest in Polystipos The worship of trees is still revealed in some of the customs of locals This forest was destroyed by lumber jacks during the years between 1940 and 1954 Fortunately 100 trees have been saved and the positive aspect is the fact that ever since goat stopped being breaded oak trees have been growing in the area Lumber jacks destroyed more than 650 oak trees Then starts the vineyard zone It seems like a green covered carpet like a frame of a painting from April to November decorating the slopes of Polystipos This frame is also decorated with fields filled with almond trees and wild vegetation mostly with what is known as xystarka During spring this wonderful landscape is filled with the singing of the happy when mating partridge Our arrival at the valleys is the centre of nature s charm The green carpet of leptokarna is everywhere During winter when everything is naked the birds hibernate In spring the nightingales are the lead singers of a choir of sweet singing birds A journey on this earthly paradise is a unique and unforgettable experience The fields in Polystipos filled with hazelnut trees
