out whenever I can glorious 5K hobble as I call it yesterday on a warm December day heaven I make home cooked meals for my kids every night they re home It is important to me and is a gift of love They appreciate it It doesn t have to be fancy but is a priority As they get older I see less and less of them so this is very important and makes me feel good Music is always at the top of the list and I sleep with headphones on drifting off to my favorite artists and gentle tunes Always a winner My son plays great guitar and I love listening in on his lessons I sit on the stairs out of sight and sometimes sing along quietly or not so much My time before bed favorite tv show watch a dvd do a crossword whatever I try never to end my day with a task There are always more tasks Me time counts Re building my support network My friends and I have drifted apart for unintended reasons and I am making a conscious effort to re connect Socialize get out more Very important and I have a lot of support out there No need to face obstacles alone Laugh Something usually makes me crack up that I come upon As they say it s the best medicine and comes up as a surprise delighting me Sleep a key element needs improvement And when all else fails I never forget the words of Scarlett O Hara well after all tomorrow s a new day Yes it is Tags balance happiness Healthy Living living happy obstacles peace stress relief tranquility Read more posts by Related Health is not just a six letter word 2 February 2015 Time Alone and Loving It 9 February 2015 Heart Health 16 February 2015 Hospital Usage and High Utilization 27 February 2015 Too blessed to be stressed 16 April 2015 0 Comments Comment Submission Name Email Website Message Subscribe Back to Mission Healthy Living Latest Posts April 25 2016 Breathe in breathe out April 19 2016 ACE Study April 11 2016 Be Kind April 1 2016 Sunny Days Ahead March 21 2016 Easter Week Authors Skye Tulio Tags balance 1 motherhood 1 peace 1 positive influence 1 teenagers 1 2016 1 ACE Study 1 ACES 2 adversity 2 aging 2 balance 3 Believe in yourself 3 better you 4 Blizzard 2016 1 calm 1 change 2 Change 1 Cold weather 2 commit 1 commitment 1 common cold 1 communication 1 ComNet15 1 confidence 1 courage 1 David P Gallagher 1 Easter 1 embrace life 4 families 3 family time 1 Fathers Day 1 fitness 1 Friday 1 friendship 1 getting better 2 getting to sleep 2 Go Green 1 gut instinct 1 happiness 5 healing 2 Healthcare costs 1 Healthy Living 26 Healthy living journey 2 Heart attack risk 1 Heart Health 1 holiday season 2 holidays 1 impact 2 inner peace 1

  • It's the most wonderful time of the year
of the year Monday November 30 2015 By Skye Tulio There is no time quite like the holidays Although we may get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season what s most important is spending time with those you love amidst all the celebrations This year and every year I am thankful for my amazing family and friends The spirit of the season and the traditions that come with it are what is most valuable to me helping my mom mom decorate the house with decorations she s had since she was a little girl lending a hand as my dad and stepmom prepare the family business for the busiest time of year spending quality time with my cousins making gingerbread houses the list goes on and on It s so much more than the notion that this time of year is all about buying presents and expecting one in return Here s a new twist on a typical holiday to do list that I m going to try to embrace this year and I hope you will too Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season Tags families Healthy Living holiday season living happy Read more posts by Skye Tulio Related Health is not just a six letter word 2 February 2015 Time Alone and Loving It 9 February 2015 Heart Health 16 February 2015 Hospital Usage and High Utilization 27 February 2015 Too blessed to be stressed 16 April 2015 0 Comments Comment Submission Name Email Website Message Subscribe Back to Mission Healthy Living Latest Posts April 25 2016 Breathe in breathe out April 19 2016 ACE Study April 11 2016 Be Kind April 1 2016 Sunny Days Ahead March 21 2016 Easter Week Authors Skye Tulio Tags balance 1 motherhood 1 peace 1 positive influence 1 teenagers 1 2016 1 ACE Study 1 ACES 2 adversity 2 aging 2 balance 3 Believe in yourself 3 better you 4 Blizzard 2016 1 calm 1 change 2 Change 1 Cold weather 2 commit 1 commitment 1 common cold 1 communication 1 ComNet15 1 confidence 1 courage 1 David P Gallagher 1 Easter 1 embrace life 4 families 3 family time 1 Fathers Day 1 fitness 1 Friday 1 friendship 1 getting better 2 getting to sleep 2 Go Green 1 gut instinct 1 happiness 5 healing 2 Healthcare costs 1 Healthy Living 26 Healthy living journey 2 Heart attack risk 1 Heart Health 1 holiday season 2 holidays 1 impact 2 inner peace 1 KPJR Films 1 leader 1 Life at the beach 1 life lessons 3 living happy 5 Living Healthier 3 motherhood 1 Moving more 1 music 1 New Hampshire 1 New Job 1 New Year s resolution 1 Night owl 3 night time routine 1 obesity 1 obstacles 1 old age 1 overwhelmed 1 pace 1 parenting 2 peace 3 physical well being 8 power of music 1 problem solving 1 road trip 1 role model 1 Seasons 1 Shenandoah Chefalo 1 sleep 2

  • What families do
about to leave us I am standing firm on honoring my dear one s wishes above the difficult one s which are often to serve their own needs not the departing one s This is an oath I took and I live by that As a physician I have had to stand firm against families yelling at me who wish to keep their failed beloved family members on life support beyond point of return in order to honor the patient s wishes Now I am in that same situation in my own family Somehow I do not find it difficult as I believe in it so strongly The difficult one is actually responding and following my lead regarding my insistence on honoring the dear one s wishes at every turn Incredible to me but true This is a great relief and I am most grateful that there are no wars for us Let s hope it lasts I have several obstacles that I will carry on to be sure my loved one is honored and given the opportunity for those who care to pay their respects and have a marker to visit in the future for eternal remembrance which the difficult one has no plans for or interest in honoring One of my kids appears not to get it so I simply said You don t have to get it we are visiting a lot simply because that s what families do Remember that because that s what you will do for the rest of your life That s what families do Families have their quirks foibles and disagreements and mine is far from perfect but in the end this is what families do I hope yours does too Tags adversity aging families Healthy Living life lessons strength Read more posts by Related Health is not just a six letter word 2 February 2015 Time Alone and Loving It 9 February 2015 Heart Health 16 February 2015 Hospital Usage and High Utilization 27 February 2015 Too blessed to be stressed 16 April 2015 0 Comments Comment Submission Name Email Website Message Subscribe Back to Mission Healthy Living Latest Posts April 25 2016 Breathe in breathe out April 19 2016 ACE Study April 11 2016 Be Kind April 1 2016 Sunny Days Ahead March 21 2016 Easter Week Authors Skye Tulio Tags balance 1 motherhood 1 peace 1 positive influence 1 teenagers 1 2016 1 ACE Study 1 ACES 2 adversity 2 aging 2 balance 3 Believe in yourself 3 better you 4 Blizzard 2016 1 calm 1 change 2 Change 1 Cold weather 2 commit 1 commitment 1 common cold 1 communication 1 ComNet15 1 confidence 1 courage 1 David P Gallagher 1 Easter 1 embrace life 4 families 3 family time 1 Fathers Day 1 fitness 1 Friday 1 friendship 1 getting better 2 getting to sleep 2 Go Green 1 gut instinct 1 happiness 5 healing 2 Healthcare costs 1 Healthy Living 26 Healthy living journey 2 Heart

  • Good night, sleep tight
in before bed that aren t helping my case So here are a few things in my experience NOT to do before bedtime Stare at your phone Or any other digital device for that matter The light these devices emits trick your body into thinking it s time to kick into high gear instead of powering down to rest It not only keeps your brain energized and awake but strains your eyes in the process Eat after 9 p m No matter how hard it may be resist the tempation to snack and indulge after 9 p m The food will sit in your stomach all night and take longer than usual to digest especially if your body is in a lounging laying down position in your bed or on a couch No one wants to go to bed feeling bloated and sickly due to overeating Drink soda or other caffeinated beverages If you re having trouble sleeping it could be because you re wired on sugar or caffeine that comes with drinking soda coffee etc After all caffeine is a stimulant that most people use to wake themselves up in the morning and stay alert throughout the day Before bed stick with water or calming tea to help your body recongize it s time to rest instead of thinking it s time to start the day Save the coffee for your morning commute These are all things I personally need to get better at and hope it will inspire you to do the same I know I will be trying to get as many Zzzs as possible tonight Sweet dreams Tags getting to sleep Healthy Living Night owl night time routine sleep well being Read more posts by Skye Tulio Related Health is not just a six letter word 2 February 2015 Time Alone and Loving It 9 February 2015 Heart Health 16 February 2015 Hospital Usage and High Utilization 27 February 2015 Too blessed to be stressed 16 April 2015 0 Comments Comment Submission Name Email Website Message Subscribe Back to Mission Healthy Living Latest Posts April 25 2016 Breathe in breathe out April 19 2016 ACE Study April 11 2016 Be Kind April 1 2016 Sunny Days Ahead March 21 2016 Easter Week Authors Skye Tulio Tags balance 1 motherhood 1 peace 1 positive influence 1 teenagers 1 2016 1 ACE Study 1 ACES 2 adversity 2 aging 2 balance 3 Believe in yourself 3 better you 4 Blizzard 2016 1 calm 1 change 2 Change 1 Cold weather 2 commit 1 commitment 1 common cold 1 communication 1 ComNet15 1 confidence 1 courage 1 David P Gallagher 1 Easter 1 embrace life 4 families 3 family time 1 Fathers Day 1 fitness 1 Friday 1 friendship 1 getting better 2 getting to sleep 2 Go Green 1 gut instinct 1 happiness 5 healing 2 Healthcare costs 1 Healthy Living 26 Healthy living journey 2 Heart attack risk 1 Heart Health 1 holiday season 2 holidays 1

  • Take a walk-whatever that means to you
would do me good I caught up to them but our paces varied I am a power walker I socialized and walked a bit with the group then traveled the rest of the way solo at my own pace On reflection I realized the value of the group s walk everyone was just where they were or at the right place for them The point was that they were doing it I used to tell my patients to start with small steps and set a minimum to commit to even when they were too busy or tired At least every single day walk to the mailbox no matter what That way you don t break your habit That s why people start but then drop a new behavior change Sound familiar say a new year s promise One day there is an excuse to stop and then it becomes increasingly easy to not continue the next day etc You break the habit feel as if you have failed and give up The secret is to find a way even if you become a marathon runner to always come back to that committed minimum at the committed frequency so you can always succeed You have to get the mail anyway right To my fellow walkers I applaud you Keep it up Tags commitment Healthy Living pace physical well being Walking Read more posts by Related Health is not just a six letter word 2 February 2015 Time Alone and Loving It 9 February 2015 Heart Health 16 February 2015 Hospital Usage and High Utilization 27 February 2015 Too blessed to be stressed 16 April 2015 0 Comments Comment Submission Name Email Website Message Subscribe Back to Mission Healthy Living Latest Posts April 25 2016 Breathe in breathe out April 19 2016 ACE Study April 11 2016 Be Kind April 1 2016 Sunny Days Ahead March 21 2016 Easter Week Authors Skye Tulio Tags balance 1 motherhood 1 peace 1 positive influence 1 teenagers 1 2016 1 ACE Study 1 ACES 2 adversity 2 aging 2 balance 3 Believe in yourself 3 better you 4 Blizzard 2016 1 calm 1 change 2 Change 1 Cold weather 2 commit 1 commitment 1 common cold 1 communication 1 ComNet15 1 confidence 1 courage 1 David P Gallagher 1 Easter 1 embrace life 4 families 3 family time 1 Fathers Day 1 fitness 1 Friday 1 friendship 1 getting better 2 getting to sleep 2 Go Green 1 gut instinct 1 happiness 5 healing 2 Healthcare costs 1 Healthy Living 26 Healthy living journey 2 Heart attack risk 1 Heart Health 1 holiday season 2 holidays 1 impact 2 inner peace 1 KPJR Films 1 leader 1 Life at the beach 1 life lessons 3 living happy 5 Living Healthier 3 motherhood 1 Moving more 1 music 1 New Hampshire 1 New Job 1 New Year s resolution 1 Night owl 3 night time routine 1 obesity 1 obstacles 1 old age 1 overwhelmed 1

  • Lead by example
matter what you do in life I believe you should always try and lead by example so your actions and behaviors help to shape and teach others As a big sister and one of the oldest of the cousins in the family I have tried to be the best role model I can be for my younger siblings cousins family friends etc to help steer them in the right direction and guide them along the way In my opinion there is too much negativity and not enough strong positive role models for younger people to look up to However we have the power to have a positive impact on someone else and change that The power to help change behaviors bring about a new way of thinking and make this world a better place It starts with you and has a ripple effect the ones who once looked up to you and probably still do are now doing the same for others and paying it forward It s all about using what you ve learned along your journey to help others navigate their own Use your influence for good and watch it take flight Tags positive influence change impact leader role model Read more posts by Skye Tulio Related Health is not just a six letter word 2 February 2015 Time Alone and Loving It 9 February 2015 Heart Health 16 February 2015 Hospital Usage and High Utilization 27 February 2015 Too blessed to be stressed 16 April 2015 0 Comments Comment Submission Name Email Website Message Subscribe Back to Mission Healthy Living Latest Posts April 25 2016 Breathe in breathe out April 19 2016 ACE Study April 11 2016 Be Kind April 1 2016 Sunny Days Ahead March 21 2016 Easter Week Authors Skye Tulio Tags balance 1 motherhood 1 peace 1 positive influence 1 teenagers 1 2016 1 ACE Study 1 ACES 2 adversity 2 aging 2 balance 3 Believe in yourself 3 better you 4 Blizzard 2016 1 calm 1 change 2 Change 1 Cold weather 2 commit 1 commitment 1 common cold 1 communication 1 ComNet15 1 confidence 1 courage 1 David P Gallagher 1 Easter 1 embrace life 4 families 3 family time 1 Fathers Day 1 fitness 1 Friday 1 friendship 1 getting better 2 getting to sleep 2 Go Green 1 gut instinct 1 happiness 5 healing 2 Healthcare costs 1 Healthy Living 26 Healthy living journey 2 Heart attack risk 1 Heart Health 1 holiday season 2 holidays 1 impact 2 inner peace 1 KPJR Films 1 leader 1 Life at the beach 1 life lessons 3 living happy 5 Living Healthier 3 motherhood 1 Moving more 1 music 1 New Hampshire 1 New Job 1 New Year s resolution 1 Night owl 3 night time routine 1 obesity 1 obstacles 1 old age 1 overwhelmed 1 pace 1 parenting 2 peace 3 physical well being 8 power of music 1 problem solving 1 road trip 1 role model 1 Seasons 1
