  • Volunteers | Mission Healthy Living
However it is much easier to engage than to retain them Key to retaining volunteers is finding the right job for the person Skill set IT Give them a computer and data job Skill set is relating well to people Match them up with an interactive position Strong and willing to tote and lift Let em at it Need a driver Some people love to drive Great with kids That would not be me ask my daughter Get their clearances and be grateful for they are the magic people Eager and willing to do anything Use them to fill the gaps you need filled Know various languages May fill one of your real needs It is worth the time and effort up front to make sure there is a good fit or the volunteer will not last long they do not have to be doing this and they need to be doing something that fulfills them see Motivation 3 Management Volunteers are not free Often they are self determining and have in mind what and how they intend to do things Like paid employees they need to be managed despite what they care to do If they agreed to fill a role there is accountability and responsibility They must follow organization rules like all paid employees and although it is sad sometimes volunteers must be let go These expectations must be clearly stated from the outset 4 Metrics Measurements Deliverables For many reasons data collection is important Accountability Demonstration of productivity and results Well worth time and effort to track Gives staff and volunteers something they can see that they have achieved and be proud of They are part of something and are contributing Can attract more volunteers Can attract funders Can list volunteer work and hours as an in kind value that is measurable Examples The number of pounds of food delivered the number of people served etc 5 Meaning Investment and work has already gone in but now it all has meaning and it is important to use all the above to help spread your message in press releases annual reports on social media internally etc Get the word about your good works All good for public relations and general feel good morale for staff retention and motivation It is all a big positive cycle that benefits your organization Tags volunteering Read more posts by Related Health is not just a six letter word 2 February 2015 Time Alone and Loving It 9 February 2015 Heart Health 16 February 2015 Hospital Usage and High Utilization 27 February 2015 Too blessed to be stressed 16 April 2015 0 Comments Comment Submission Name Email Website Message Subscribe Back to Mission Healthy Living Latest Posts April 25 2016 Breathe in breathe out April 19 2016 ACE Study April 11 2016 Be Kind April 1 2016 Sunny Days Ahead March 21 2016 Easter Week Authors Skye Tulio Tags balance 1 motherhood 1 peace 1 positive influence 1 teenagers 1 2016 1 ACE

  • Take the time to talk the walk | Mission Healthy Living
to be more observant of our surroundings and be aware of any little thing that could spark a story in our minds having us walk around the building several times and write down what we noticed without speaking a word to each other Now as a graduate student preparing for graduation this Sunday I still remember that saying and try to live it as much as possible throughout my daily life This weekend my friend and I took the opportunity to stroll around our beautiful campus and just take it all in As this will be my final week in Bonaland it was great to just stop and reflect on the serenity peacefulness and beauty that I might have taken for granted over the last five years Too busy with my head buried in the books to notice the little things that make this campus unique warm more like frigid in the winter and inviting My advice to everyone would be to make sure to slow down even during life s most hectic stressful moments to take the time to talk the walk Literally and figuratively Create your story but don t forget to take in to account what s happening around you in the process Cherish you experiences loved ones and friends that have helped you become who you are today Before you know it some of life s greatest moments will be over in a blink of an eye Enjoy them while you can xoxo Skye Tags life lessons Stress Read more posts by Skye Tulio Related Health is not just a six letter word 2 February 2015 Time Alone and Loving It 9 February 2015 Heart Health 16 February 2015 Hospital Usage and High Utilization 27 February 2015 Too blessed to be stressed 16 April 2015 0 Comments Comment Submission Name Email Website Message Subscribe Back to Mission Healthy Living Latest Posts April 25 2016 Breathe in breathe out April 19 2016 ACE Study April 11 2016 Be Kind April 1 2016 Sunny Days Ahead March 21 2016 Easter Week Authors Skye Tulio Tags balance 1 motherhood 1 peace 1 positive influence 1 teenagers 1 2016 1 ACE Study 1 ACES 2 adversity 2 aging 2 balance 3 Believe in yourself 3 better you 4 Blizzard 2016 1 calm 1 change 2 Change 1 Cold weather 2 commit 1 commitment 1 common cold 1 communication 1 ComNet15 1 confidence 1 courage 1 David P Gallagher 1 Easter 1 embrace life 4 families 3 family time 1 Fathers Day 1 fitness 1 Friday 1 friendship 1 getting better 2 getting to sleep 2 Go Green 1 gut instinct 1 happiness 5 healing 2 Healthcare costs 1 Healthy Living 26 Healthy living journey 2 Heart attack risk 1 Heart Health 1 holiday season 2 holidays 1 impact 2 inner peace 1 KPJR Films 1 leader 1 Life at the beach 1 life lessons 3 living happy 5 Living Healthier 3 motherhood 1 Moving more 1 music 1 New Hampshire

My aunt also an alumna and I were showing my little sister who s a freshman in high school our second home It was too gorgeous a day to spend it all inside slaving away over packing tape and boxes so we got our legs moving walking a good portion of my small but vast campus Especially my aunt and my sister who spent 5 ½ hours in the car to come help me pack need to stretch their legs and then some Best family ever huh As we proceeded to pack up most of my room with anything that would fit in the car my family and I walked up and down the two flights of stairs I can t tell you how many times lugging everything you can imagine crates lamps bags upon bags of clothes I told you I had a lot a printer table plastic bins filled to the brim etc I almost wish we had all been wearing pedometers to track what must have been thousands of steps between the three of us all weekend Girl power It s amazing what can get done with a little elbow grease team work and a lot of laughter By Sunday we were all exhausted with sore feet and backs but we all noticed that we slept like babies and felt great after each day of moving fun hot showers helped too After this weekend I vowed to spend less time sitting around in my last two weeks in my beloved Bonaland and get outside to enjoy the beautiful campus scenery I fell in love with five years ago as a prospective undergraduate student I ve come a long way since then and I m determined to keep getting better every step of the way Here s to moving more and sitting less and having fun while doing it xoxo Skye Tags Moving more Stair Master Read more posts by Skye Tulio Related Health is not just a six letter word 2 February 2015 Time Alone and Loving It 9 February 2015 Heart Health 16 February 2015 Hospital Usage and High Utilization 27 February 2015 Too blessed to be stressed 16 April 2015 0 Comments Comment Submission Name Email Website Message Subscribe Back to Mission Healthy Living Latest Posts April 25 2016 Breathe in breathe out April 19 2016 ACE Study April 11 2016 Be Kind April 1 2016 Sunny Days Ahead March 21 2016 Easter Week Authors Skye Tulio Tags balance 1 motherhood 1 peace 1 positive influence 1 teenagers 1 2016 1 ACE Study 1 ACES 2 adversity 2 aging 2 balance 3 Believe in yourself 3 better you 4 Blizzard 2016 1 calm 1 change 2 Change 1 Cold weather 2 commit 1 commitment 1 common cold 1 communication 1 ComNet15 1 confidence 1 courage 1 David P Gallagher 1 Easter 1 embrace life 4 families 3 family time 1 Fathers Day 1 fitness 1 Friday 1 friendship 1 getting better 2 getting to sleep
