    the shore which corresponds to a depth of 40 to 60 m while the remaining part until 3 miles remains open to local fishermen activities accessible through four channels GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION A l Hoceima National Park is located on the mediterranean coast of Morocco about 50 kilometers east Gibraltar straight near the city of Al Hoceima Province of Al Hoceima AREA T he marine area covers almost 17200 hectars BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY ELEMENTS T he marine area is under the influence of the Atlantic waters entering the Mediterranean through Gibraltar so the species are from the two origins One of the peculiarities of the marine flora is the presence of Laminaria rodreguizii For the marine fauna the Mediterranean Monk seal has recently last 10 years disappeared from this area but is still visiting it every year The fish fauna is rich more than 100 species and in particular numerous groupers Epinephelus sp of different ages the area being certainly a spawning and nursery area Offshore dolphins are present and a famous high quality red coral Corallium rubrum can be found on the rocky substrates The avifauna is rich about 80 species with in particular osprey Pandion halieatus Audouins s gull Larus

    Resources GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION T he Lara Toxeftra area is located in the south western part of the Akamas peninsula 15 kilometers west from the town of Paphos and between N 34o 59 30 and 34o 59 The inland extension is 90 meters from the mean sea level and the seaward extension is to the 20 meter isobath AREA 650 hectares 100 terrestrial and 550 marine BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY ELEMENTS T he area protected is part of the Akamas peninsula located at the western tip of the island of Cyprus and presently studied in order to create a National Park covering about 155 square kilometers the peninsula is a plateau about 500 meters high which runs from north west south east and is covered by riche and varied vegetation There are many small streams and rivers which cross the eastern and western slopes forming many deep narrow valleys and some gorges the coastline is varied with both sandy beaches and rocky coasts with in some places marine caves The reserve covers about 10 kilometers of coastline including the most important nesting beaches for marine turtles The beaches of the area are some of the few known nesting areas of the remaining populations
