    Executive Team Facts and Figures Patient Stories Research Get Involved Events Publications Rady Children s to Expand Pediatric Healthcare Services in Southwest Riverside County San Diego Dec 3 2014 Rady Children s Hospital San Diego has announced plans to build a new medical office building on four acres of land in Murrieta The building which will be located on Hancock Avenue between Murrieta Hot Springs and Los Alamos Roads will be known as Rady Children s Health Services and will offer outpatient services that include pediatric adolescent and perinatal specialty care There s a growing demand for pediatric healthcare in southwest Riverside County said Kathleen Korn director of business development at Rady Children s That s why Rady Children s is making an enduring investment in the health and well being of children in the region Rady Children s currently offers 15 different pediatric and perinatal specialty services at its outpatient office on Medical Center Drive in Murrieta These services will be relocated to the new medical office building and new specialties will be added In addition to providing outpatient services Rady Children s also operates a 13 bed inpatient Neonatal Intensive Care Unit NICU at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta NICU services will remain at Rancho Springs We re so excited that Rady Children s has selected our community for the expansion of its healthcare services said Murrieta City Manager Rick Dudley One of Murrieta s goals is to become the regional healthcare center for southwest Riverside County As the largest source of pediatric health services in San Diego Rady Children s is a great partner in expanding our region s state of the art health care The new medical office building is scheduled to open for services in early 2017 About Rady Children s Hospital San Diego

    Blood Disorders at Rady Children s Newsroom Fantasy on Ice Benefits Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children s About Us Who We Are Newsroom Press Releases Executive Team Facts and Figures Patient Stories Research Get Involved Events Publications Fantasy on Ice Benefits Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children s San Diego Nov 20 2014 It s that time of year to once again lace up those skates for the 18 th Annual Rady Children s Hospital s Fantasy on Ice presented by Sycuan The rink opens on Nov 20 at 6 p m at Horton Square in downtown San Diego Former cancer patient Bryn Rathweg and her family will help kick off the opening night celebration with the official countdown to start the skating season Bryn was only 10 months old when she was diagnosed with a rare cancerous brain tumor called Anaplastic Malignant Ependymoma Last year Fantasy on Ice helped raise more than 130 000 for the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children s The Peckham Center is the largest pediatric hematology oncology program serving San Diego Imperial and Riverside counties and is the only facility in San Diego County for pediatric bone marrow transplants For the fourth year in a row the Center has been ranked among the nation s best pediatric cancer program by U S News World Report Every year nearly 200 children are diagnosed with cancer and almost 400 children receive treatment at the Center The rink hours are from 10 a m to 10 p m seven days a week through the holiday season and will remain open until Jan 4 2015 but will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day Admission which includes the rental of the skates is 14

  • San Diego Children Among First Four California Cases Of Enterovirus-D68
    coming to the hospital with respiratory conditions in mid August and the numbers continue to increase said Dr John Bradley pediatric infectious disease specialist at Rady Children s However for most children EV D68 is experienced as a common cold so a trip to the emergency department is generally not necessary unless the child has difficulty breathing or an unusually high fever We may learn of more cases in San Diego but overall respiratory illnesses have not increased significantly in the community said Dr Wilma Wooten County public health officer We are monitoring this closely with our local health care providers According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC EV D68 has been identified as causing cases of severe respiratory illness across 16 states since mid August Most of the illnesses have occurred in young children and many have reported a history of asthma It is estimated that 10 to 15 million enterovirus infections occur in the United States each year While there are more than 100 types of enteroviruses that commonly cause respiratory illness EV D68 is a less common type which was first identified in California in 1962 Most people infected with enteroviruses have no symptoms or only mild symptoms of the common cold Enteroviruses are transmitted through close contact with an infected person or by touching objects or surfaces contaminated with the virus and then touching the mouth nose or eyes There is no specific treatment for EV D68 infections other than management of symptoms which is why it is important to take steps to protect yourself and others from respiratory infections such as enterovirus said Dr Wooten You can help protect yourself from respiratory illnesses by following these steps Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds especially after changing diapers Avoid
