    Tom Frederick has served as Executive Director of both the Rivanna Water Sewer Authority and the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority in Charlottesville Virginia since June 2004 Responsibilities include overall direction in service to the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County through wholesale water supply and treatment wholesale wastewater transmission and treatment and public solid waste services requested by the City or County Focus areas have included water supply planning and permitting renewal of aging infrastructure reduction of nitrogen and phosphorus in wastewater treatment discharges renewable energy groundwater remediation of a closed landfill excellent fiscal management and improved customer service and community involvement with a focus on environmental stewardship Mr Frederick serves on the board of directors for the Virginia Water and Waste Authorities Association immediate past president and current treasurer and the Virginia Association of Municipal Wastewater Agencies current secretary He is also a member of the Global Water Leaders Group a cluster of water utility CEOs representing combined water service to over 1 billion people He was recently appointed by the Director of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to the Eastern Virginia Groundwater Management Advisory Committee for his expertise in water supply management Mr Frederick is an accomplished public speaker on numerous topics related to water environmental stewardship and leadership Prior to coming to Charlottesville Mr Frederick served as a Project Manager in the engineering consulting industry with Arcadis in Greensboro North Carolina and served as Director of Water Resources for the City of Asheville North Carolina Mr Frederick earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from NC State and completed post graduate studies in Public Administration at UNC Chapel Hill When he s not managing the community water he enjoys reading physical fitness travel outdoor recreation and gardening Recent Posts McIntire s Composting Pilot Continues Spring

  • Lonnie Wood | Rivanna Authorities
    s Director of Finance and Administration and manages the administrative services including finance data processing budgeting debt management risk management human resources employee benefits and purchasing Mr Wood joined the Authority on May 24 1999 Mr Wood has guided the Authority in strengthening its financial condition over the years by implementing the first multi year capital improvement planning process that ties spending forecasts to future rate and charge increases as well as reserve policies The Authority s formally adopted financial policies in 2011 and in 2012 the Authority received its first bond rating increase in 20 years from Standards Poor s AA to an AA during a time of significant changes and scrutiny in the municipal bond industry Mr Wood has been responsible for financing the Authority s aggressive capital campaign by initiating over 236 million in revenue bond sales to finance new projects or refinance older bonds over the past 16 years Mr Wood joined the Authority following seven years as a Senior Auditor for the Commonwealth of Virginia s Auditor of Public Accounts three years as Director of Finance of the County of Louisa Virginia and several years as the Chief Financial Officer for a local law firm He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Longwood University Virginia Lonnie is a Certified Public Accountant and is a member of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants the National and Virginia Government Finance Officers Association and the Virginia Association of Government Purchasers Lonnie has strong ties to the community being a native of the area and growing up in Albemarle County Many of the facilities and resources managed by Rivanna were a part of his early childhood especially the Sugar Hollow and Beaver Creek watersheds and reservoirs Lonnie has three wonderful children Recent Posts McIntire

    Contact Us Home Jennifer Whitaker Jennifer Whitaker Posted on Sep 30 2015 in Ms Jennifer Whitaker joined Rivanna Water Sewer Authority in Charlottesville Virginia as Chief Engineer in August of 2003 In this role she has overseen an aggressive 265 million Capital Improvement Program construction inspection development design review GIS implementation utility locating and technical assistance to the operating arm of the Authority Additionally Jennifer serves as the Authority s Dam Safety Engineer During her time at Rivanna Jennifer has been pivotal in the permitting design and construction of the New Ragged Mountain Dam and the Enhanced Nutrient Removal system at the Moores Creek Advanced Water Resource Recovery Facility Jennifer currently leads a team of 8 staff members Throughout her 20 year career Jennifer has led planning efforts as well as implementation of projects in infrastructure renewal and improvement water supply water system hydraulics and dam operation and safety Jennifer s background in emergency planning and management allow her to coordinate regional dam safety education and mitigation efforts Ms Whitaker currently serves as a Practitioner Advisor for the student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE at the University of Virginia Prior to coming to Rivanna Ms Whitaker served as the Assistant City Engineer for the City of Charlottesville and was a Project Manager in the engineering consulting industry with Gannett Fleming in Richmond and Newport News Virginia Ms Whitaker earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia and is a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia Outside of work Jennifer loves to spend time with her family and friends enjoying the endless outdoor recreational possibilities in Charlottesville Recent Posts McIntire s Composting Pilot Continues Spring HHW and Amnesty Bulky Waste Days Are Here Ragged Mountain Dam Reaches 100 Capacity Lead
