  • Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee
    Ninety Second Gift to Rotary As Chair of the Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee I am given the opportunity to promote that part of my life I call Rotary to the world in forty five to ninety seconds As Rotarians we change people s lives and give them hope where there is none Many times in order to achieve our goals we must find a way to have people of different backgrounds sit down at the table and negotiate a safe environment for our volunteers to work This year s entry will highlight Rotary s efforts to create a more peaceful world Since Rotary returned to the Tournament of Roses Parade in 1980 the New Year s Day pageant has become a highlight on the Rotary calendar Seen in Pasadena by over 700 000 people television coverage of the floral extravaganza reaches about 80 million more around the world providing Rotary with the valuable opportunity to showcase our programs and activities Be A Gift To The World will be RI President Ravi Ravindran s theme for this year The Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee is a gift to Rotary Although the float is not a project of Rotary International the success of the float is a tribute to the dedication of the Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee consisting of volunteer Rotarians from across North America Our efforts supported entirely by voluntary financial contributions from Rotary clubs across the United States and Canada 2016 will make this the 37th consecutive entry in the Tournament of Roses Parade The Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee is proud to provide this Rotary recognition campaign tool as a gift to Rotary International and the 1 2 million Rotarians who dedicate our lives to making a positive difference in that place someone calls home Yours In

    entry in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Rose Parade on January 1 2016 This whimsical and lovely garden is a design which blends RI s 2015 2016 theme Be A Gift To The World and the Rose Parade theme of Find Your Adventure by focusing on the greatest gift and adventure of all attaining world peace Find Your Adventure is a theme that has grown out of a unique partnership between the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and the U S National Park Service The 2016 Rose Parade will help shine light on the centennial celebration of USA national parks Rotary s History with the theme of Peace In the words of Paul Harris The road to war is well paved The road to peace is a wilderness An excellent example of taming the wilderness was started by the 15 member Rotary Club of Cardston Alberta Together with other Canadian and USA Rotary Clubs they succeeded in unifying the Canadian Waterton Lakes National Park with the USA Glacier National Park and forming the Waterton Glacier National Peace Park An adventure that continues today with the establishment of over 138 Peace Parks throughout the world In addition to these large parks Rotary has not forgotten the importance of individual efforts and the planting of small gardens In 1999 Rotary established the Rotary Centers for International Studies in Peace and Conflict Resolution Since then over 2000 graduates have emerged and have created their own gardens through their service As of 2014 over 90 of the Rotary Districts throughout the world include in their mission the promotion of peace Participation includes the nomination and sponsorship of Peace Scholars holding annual peace conferences within their district and or participating in Rotary s Annual Peace and Conflict Prevention Resolution Conference It is our honor to have our Float participants walkers and riders be selected from this wonderful group of peace ambassadors and Rotarians who have chosen to make their Rotary goal world peace The live audience at the parade route and the millions of television and web viewers will learn the float riders and outwalker s inspiring stories as each have endeavored to bring peace to their fellow man and to the world Float Design The Rotary Float is under 35 and could do justice to the grandeur of the Waterton Glacier International Peace Park So to emphasize the individual efforts of Rotarians to promote peace in their own small corner of the world the float depicts a peaceful yet whimsical garden Other than our Rotarian participants the float is host to butterflies squirrels dragonflies and most importantly doves of peace Rider and Outwalker Information The 2016 float will feature four riders and at least eight outwalkers representing Rotarians who have participated within Rotary International and or their district in Peace Conferences Peace Scholars and or participation in the Rotarian Action Group for Peace Complete biographies and photographs of the riders and outwalkers will be posted when selected The three that have been selected to date
