    Positions including twice each as Assistant Governor and Governor s Aide As well as 14 years as District Public Relations Chairman and nine years as Editor of the District Newsletter She has been a Rotarian since 1989 She is a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Paul Harris Society Professionally Connie has owned her own company Cashin Marketing Consultants a full service shopping center marketing company since 1990 Carol A Wylie was proud to serve Rotary International District 5280 in1998 99 as District Governor the first female for our District Diversity and the Internationality of Rotary are my passion and through my Rotary journey I have seen many different cultures customs and beliefs It has been an honor for me to participate in several humanitarian missions and to serve Rotary as a Presidents Representative on several occasions Rotary International is an organization that is changing the world and I am proud to be a Rotarian Carol has been a member of the Rotary Rose Parade committee since 1995 and served as the Chairman in 2002 03 This hard working dedicated committee and Carol were pleased to see the Float The Sky s the Limit on January 1 2003 as it traveled Colorado Blvd in the Rose Parade Carol has been a member of the Rotary club of Carson Gardena Dominguez since October 1989 and served as Club President in 1994 95 A note from Carol about riding in float The morning darkness and cold turned into bright warm sunshine as the floats in the parade traveled down Colorado Blvd Crowds of people were waving and I was proud to be representing our great organization Rotary International The weariness turned into enthusiasm and pride as people said Thank you Rotary for my Ambassadorial Scholarship Thank you Rotary for my Group Study Exchange experience look there is Rotary Where are the men So many people are familiar with Rotary and what better way to showcase Rotary International to millions of people in this country and abroad than to have a Rotary float traveling down Colorado Blvd on New Year s Day Thank you again for the opportunity and thanks for the memories Carol Sylvia Whitlock 1st woman Rotary Club President District 5300 Sylvia joined the Ex rotary Club of Duarte in 1982 In 1987 after a successful suit carried all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States the club was reinstated into Rotary Dr Whitlock is a Psychotherapist and a retired public school principal She has served Rotary at a district level since the readmission of the Duarte Club chairing Ambassadorial Scholarship Four Way Speech Test District Simplified Grant and many other committees Sylvia is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow as is her daughter Meredith Johrita Solari Rotary District 5320 Governor Nominee 2010 2011 representing 47 clubs and 2300 Rotarians in Los Angeles and Orange Counties She joined Rotary in 1993 and serve as the first female Club President to complete her term in 1996 She is

    very friendly loves to go to parties and to meet new people When she returns to Paraguay Valerie plans to attend college and study to be a flight attendant or an electronic engineer Norbert Karoly is from Cegled Hungary and is eighteen years old He is a Rotary Exchange student studying at Coronado High School His two primary interests in life are school and water polo In Hungary he has a 4 63 out of 5 00 GPA Norbie played club water polo on the Hungarian Junior National team however they are not so fortunate in Hungary to have a high school league and he enjoys this very much His dream is to attend college in the United States receiving a degree in business This year as a Rotary Exchange student he intends to master English and obtain a better understanding of the American people culture and politics Hanae Nakamura is from Rotary District 2790 in Japan She is 18 years old and parents are both teachers She has one younger brother and two younger sisters Her host club is Big Bear Lake Rotary in District 5330 She is enjoying America especially the food weather customs and people When she first arrived in August it was very difficult for her to understand English It was even harder to speak correctly but it is getting easier all the time Being on the Rotary International Rose Parade Float is really exciting for her She says I love my life in the U S A Pearl Shimoomba is from Zambia Africa She is 16 years old and is being hosted by the Rotary club of Pomona in District 5300 She attends Bonita High School and her interests are music swimming law and forensic sciences She is really enjoying her youth exchange year here

    School Her goal is to become a medical doctor specializing in reconstructive surgery Sole is an avid snowboarder Daniel Léon was born in Brazil but has lived in Quito Ecuador since he was 8 He is hosted by the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo de Tolosa He loves to play soccer mountain biking tennis and dancing He is currently studying his fourth language French Muthoni Munene is a Rotary exchange student from Kenya with a deep love for her country and a strong belief in the beauty and diverse potential of Africa She is enthusiastic and optimistic and loves to share her culture and learn from others She is honored and grateful to Rotary for this valuable experience She is hosted by the Rotary Club of Big Bear Aurélien Romain is from Belgium He is18 years old and is hosted by the Rotary Club of Beverly Hills He is from a big family three older brothers and one younger sister He likes to play soccer and is on the school team He also likes to play tennis with friends His passions are sports hanging out with friends and discovering new things He is a very social and friendly person and likes to meet new people Gurleen Kaur Sahni is from New Delhi India and is hosted by the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo She is a Senior at San Luis Obispo High School and her favorite pastimes are music dancing and painting When she returns to India she will go to the University to study fine arts Candace Yang is from China She is a 16 year old junior at Huntington Beach High School She has no brothers or sisters She enjoys singing playing tennis going to movies and hanging out with friends She likes to be active

    a particular interest in community service and enjoys the many activities and projects both local and international To be chosen to ride on the Float Christina wrote an essay on the topic of the Rotary Family Tree which was read to the El Segundo Rotary and Interact Clubs Other awards and activities include the Presidents Award for Academic Excellence Who s Who Among American High School Students 2003 National Honor Roll 2003 and 2004 HOBY Ambassador Principals Honor Roll Student Government WASC Committee International Economic Summit participant Optimist Speech Finalist and Boy s Water Polo Stats She has played Water Polo for four years and lettered She has also been on the Swim Team for three years lettered and received the 100 Award She also teaches Sunday School at her church Ariel Waite District 5300 Je Hyung John Park District 5320 John is a senior at University High School in Irvine California He came from Korea five years ago and is a permanent resident of the United States He has been the Assistant Youth Governor of District 5320 and President of the Interact Club at his high school In addition he is an Eagle Scout President of Church Youth Council President of Legion of Mary Immaculate Heart of Mary Praesidium and Lead guitarist of the SEAS church band Caitlin Sawyers District 5340 Caitlin lives in La Mesa California and attends Grossmont High School She is the President of the Interact Club this year She has been recognized as a 2004 Presidential Freedom Scholarship recipient Who s Who Among Americal High School Studens 2002 2004 Outstanding Student of America 2004 Principal s Honor Roll and CSF She is a Junior Volunteer at Grossmont Hospital where she has contributed over 500 hours to date She is a member of the La Mesa

    the summer Dan C Massie Dan graduated with honors from Santa Ynez Valley Union High School California in 1997 He is currently a senior at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo He is a web designer aerospace engineering intern and full time student In high school Dan attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and gained valuable leadership experience He remains friends with several of the people he met during his RYLA experience Dan continues to build upon his leadership skills with his involvement in school organizations In Spring 2002 Dan will graduate with a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and plans on earning his Masters in Electrical Engineering in the years to come Rachel A Morgan Fifteen year old Rachel is described by many as having the tenacity to overcome Though she suffers from two rare illnesses Rachel is always on the go She is an honor student a distinguished speaker recognized by several different organizations at the district level a People to People International Ambassador a published author and an advocate for disabled children Rachel is currently trying to charter an Interact Club at Chatsworth High school where she is a sophomore Rachel enjoys playing flute and piccolo as a member of several local orchestral ensembles and her high school orchestra and band as well as studying immunology in hopes of finding out what causes her illnesses She hopes to one day major in international studies and law while working within the community on a fledgling organization that she is founding to provide pen pals for children with disabilities Rachel attended RYLA 2000 on crutches but refused to let that get her down She later spoke about her experiences as a disabled student at the district conference Humberto Hernandez Humberto was born in Mexico and moved to the United States with his family when he was three years old He is 17 years old and second youngest of five boys in the family He has have been involved in many activities at Clovis High School In athletics he is on the cross country team and pole vaults during the track season He was Junior Class Vice President and is currently the Senior Class President He volunteers at the local elementary school and is a mentor to a freshman his high school Club memberships include Stage 71 2001 and Azteca He was a nominee to Boys State The Clovis Rotary Club recognized him as one of the Top 100 students in the Clovis Unified School District Humberto attended Camp Royal at Lake Sequoia in the summer of 2000 He works part time at Baskin Robbins Togo s and plans to attend Fresno State College and major in business Roderick Brown Roderick is a 18 year old freshman at California State University at Dominguez Hills in Carson California At Gardena High School he was President of the Interact Club and with the help of the Interact Board Members chartered a successful Youth Act club He was also a member of
