    on its path I envisioned Rx Laughter as a research based personalized age specific entertainment system that would offer these comedy programs to seriously ill patients of all ages in all treatment areas at hospitals nationwide in a more humanistic caring environment Seeing someone you love smiling enjoying themselves for a moment especially when they are ill is a wonderful feeling Children teens are the most vulnerable impressionable So it seemed natural to me to focus our efforts on helping seriously ill pediatric patients and that by doing so we d be able to help their family close friends to feel better too As we grew we could then also include Adult patients of all ages This is now beginning to happen thanks to so many people I chose UCLA School of Medicine for the start of Rx Laughter because of their renowned reputation and desire to find innovative ways of integrating emotional healing into the medical environment Dr Stuber and Dr Zeltzer highly respected UCLA pediatric cancer researchers and physicians were immediately supportive of my Proposal Comedy Central became our seed funder Our work began Since then we have found intriguing preliminary data that suggests that children and adolescents who laugh while watching funny programs television shows films cartoons are able to withstand painful procedures longer and with less overall anxiety Now our work at Rx Laughter is focusing on putting these research findings into practical health care settings I cannot express my gratitude enough to Ian Cook MD at the UCLA School of Medicine for seeing the value in this project and to Dr Stuber Dr Zeltzer for their leap of faith their kindness their devotion to our research in our first years There are countless Volunteers physicians Child Life Specialists psychiatrists and sponsors who put in countless

    Ebay Joy Bhosai MPH became an intern for Rx Laughter during her Junior Year at Pomona College During this time she helped Rx Laughter create our compilation of research studies regarding the role of humor and positive emotion on health After graduation Joy was honored with a year long Fulbright Scholarship choosing to do research at The Mahavajiralongkorn Cancer Center in Thailand a division of the National Cancer Institute While there Joy designed a research study between them and Rx Laughter regarding the benefits of humor therapy during cancer treatments See Research for more information Joy now has a Masters in Public Health from Yale Universityandis currently a a Pre Med Student at the University of California San Francisco Saki Miwa MPH volunteered at Rx Laughter while obtaining her MA in Public Health with a concentration in Chronic Disease Epidemiology at Yale University As a Statistical Analyst for our research collaboration with the National Cancer Institute in Thailand she finalized the statistical findings regarding the effects that the humor therapy had on the patients Suzanne Raga is a student at Princeton University majoring in The History of Science and Technology with a certificate in Language and Culture of Ancient Rome She has supported Rx Laughter since high school where she learned about Rx Laughter through her volunteer work at the UCLA Brain Mapping Institute Suzie has volunteered for the Rx Laughter Channel at the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Division at the Mattel Children s Hospital UCLA helped design the Rx Laughter Charlie Chaplin greeting cards original version and fundraises for Rx Laughter She is the creator of the After The Show Music Website Blog and author of the study skills Ebook You Rock How to be a Star Student Still Have Fun Suzie is donating 10 of the proceeds of this
