  • Officer Frank Mello : June 30th, 1951
    severed his leg when his motorcycle collided with a State Police car as he responded to a box alarm at 7th and H Streets Officer Mello was treated at the scene by a doctor who happened to be a witness His recovery was going well when his injury took a sudden turn Officer Mello became jaundiced during his recovery which ultimately ended his life on June 30 1951 just two

  • Charles Joseph Ogle : March 12th, 1951
    at the intersection of Airport Road and Grand Avenue at 2 15 a m The Highway Patrol reported Captain Ogle and Deputy Gene Roark were parked in the car off the pavement when the taxi struck the unit broadside Roark was thrown from the car and sustained only cuts and bruises The driver of the cab suffered only minor injuries The driver of the cab said he thought the squad car was going to pull across Airport Road upon which he was traveling so he pulled to the right in an effort to go behind it The taxi showed 65 feet of skid marks Ogle joined the department under Sheriff Ellis Jones and during the prohibition era he worked under then undersheriff and later Sheriff Don Cox in stamping out liquor operations Law enforcement was Captain Ogle s main interest and he was reportedly an excellent detective At the time he died he had been serving in the department s advisement branch to younger deputies His main occupation was the inside night captain s desk but on the midnight shift he often took over squad car duties Upon learning of Captain Ogle s death Judge Coughlin of the Sacramento Superior

  • Erskin Fish : August 11th, 1935
    11 1935 Chief Fish was shot to his death In an almost western style shoot out a hail of bullets overcame the Chief as he encountered two burglars fleeing from a bush as he responded to a burglar call from a resident It was a customary practice for the Chief to respond to calls alone and summon for backup as needed Chief Fish had been the Chief of the North

    Annual Remembrance Ceremony END OF WATCH Officer Joseph Scott December 12th 1878 Officer Scott lost his life in the line of duty on December 12 1878 It was assumed that while questioning several people Officer Scott was shot and left for dead near an alley He was a member of the Sacramento Police Department for almost one year Eight people were questioned regarding the shooting His assailant was never apprehended
