    he founded the Chicago Video Project CVP a 501C 3 non profit video production company CVP produces documentaries and public policy videos about social and economic issues for and public television and non profit public interest organizations The National Council on Foundations Annual Film and Video Festivals recognized CVP productions on six separate occasions for excellence in how media can play an important role in advancing grant making goals Visit www chicagovideo org Mr Orenstein s other credits include the 2003 Emmy award winning WTTW documentary No Place to Live Chicago s Affordable Housing Crisis In 1999 Mr Orenstein co produced and directed the national PBS broadcast and Emmy nominated Democratic Promise Saul Alinsky His Legacy With a grant from the John D Catherine T MacArthur Foundation The Democratic Promise was placed in 1 900 civic and community development organizations where it was used as a durable training tool to teach and inspire community members Hundreds of teachers use it in college classrooms nationwide Prior to his career as a filmmaker Mr Orenstein directed community run direct action citizen s organizations in Seattle Washington Fort Wayne Indiana and Chicago Illinois The organizations addressed affordable housing public education employment youth services

    Start Job Corps VISTA Neighborhood Health Centers Legal Services to the Poor and Foster Grandparents among others Alongside his beloved and extraordinary wife Eunice he helped create the Special Olympics and served as its Chairman growing it to a global organization This singular American hero through his can do spirit practical idealism abiding faith and belief that anything is possible in the pursuit of serving others changed the lives of millions of people all over the world I count myself as one of those millions When Michael Brown and I started City Year we described the organization as an urban Peace Corps And it was many Peace Corps Alums including Robert Burkhardt Newell Flather Roger Landrum Paul Tsongas and Harris Wofford Sarge s dear friend and collaborator on the John F Kennedy Presidential Campaign and in founding the Peace Corps who best understood what we hoped to do and backed our efforts in the very beginning We studied the founding of the Peace Corps and saw Sarge as a powerful role model for how to build an entrepreneurial and effective institution of lasting impact Like everyone in the modern service movement we stand on Sargent Shriver s strong shoulders Among all of Sarge s important achievements none were more important to him than family Each of his children Bobby Maria Tim Mark and Anthony continue to follow his example in their own powerful and unique ways Sarge serves an ongoing inspiration to us all and continues to challenge us As we reflect on his incredible life and contributions to the world let us all aspire to follow Sarge s invaluable wisdom and example in our work every day As he passionately stated in 1994 at Yale University All of history s great changes nonviolent changes came from below not from
