    basketball and baseball As a senior he was a First Team All Independence Football League IFL Safety Second Team All IFL Running Back was recipient of the Klinefelter Award as the team s Most Outstanding running back First Team All Inter Ac Basketball received the Landreth Award as the Most Valuable Player of the varsity basketball team and was chosen as the recipient of the Lawrence R Mallery Award as the Senior Scholar Athlete He went on to play basketball at Yale University where he was the captain his senior year Dick Kuchen his head coach at Yale commented that Josh had terrific leadership skills and his enthusiasm and teamwork both led by example He was a tremendous role model for the younger kids as well Dan Gargan 01 Dan was a three sport athlete while at CHA and was a member of four Inter Ac Championship teams two for soccer and two for track He earned 10 varsity letters was captain of both the soccer and track teams and a member of the Championship 4 X 100 Penn Relays team his senior year As a sophomore he was Second Team All Inter Ac As a junior he was the Horace L Witman Soccer Team MVP and as a senior he was the MVP for the second time First Team All Inter Ac in soccer and the League MVP and Honorable Mention All Inter Ac in basketball He was also awarded the J L Patterson Cup as the Outstanding Athlete of the senior class He attended Georgetown University where he was a two time captain In his junior year he was chosen All Big East Third Team was named the team MVP and selected to the NSCAA Adidas All South Atlantic Region Team He started all 18 games and was the second leading scorer on the team his junior year During his senior season he was an All Big East Second Team selection NSCAA All South Atlantic Region Third Team choice and finished second on the team in scoring The Colorado Rapids drafted Dan in the fourth round of the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft and after the 2006 season he was selected as the Rapids Most Improved Player He has played in the MLS and the USL since 2005 with over 120 games under his belt and was a member of Toronto FC who won the Nutrilite Canadian Championship in 2010 Frank Steel 77 Frank Steel had an impressive run as the Head Varsity Tennis Coach at CHA from 1985 through 1997 He stands as one of the most successful head coaches in CHA athletic history with an overall record of 132 57 70 wins and six Inter Ac titles His teams won their first title in 1990 and then won five straight from 1993 through 1998 The 1990 team was undefeated with an overall record of 16 0 During the stretch of five consecutive Inter Ac League Championships the team had an overall record of 60 9 with a

    both the 2004 and 2008 Olympic team trials Andre Dixon 94 Andre was an outstanding all around athlete at CHA He received nine varsity letters in football basketball crew and track As a freshman Andre placed second in the National Championship Regatta with the Varsity Quad In his senior year Andre captained the 1993 Independence League champion football team and the 1994 Inter Ac Champion track team He was the recipient of the J L Patterson Cup for Most Outstanding Athlete in the senior class and also won the award for Most Outstanding Player on the football and track teams At Inter Ac Championships Andre placed first in the 200 meters first in the long jump and broke the CHA triple jump record with a jump of 44 11 After CHA Andre played football at Northeastern University where he was first team All Atlantic 10 Conference and First Team All New England in 1998 In 1999 Andre continued on in football on to play in the NFL for the Detroit Lions before retiring Lenny Morrow H 93 Loved by students coaches and teachers alike Lenny was an institution at CHA He served Chestnut Hill Academy as the Assistant to the Athletic Director for 34 years from 1968 2002 Lenny began his career at CHA as the Equipment Manager and later taught physical education and coached middle school football and baseball His strong work ethic was much appreciated as he took great pride in serving the athletes and coaches every day Lenny was the first face that greeted every student athlete entering the locker room area to prepare for practice and games Always positive and with his infectious good humor Lenny would offer enthusiastic encouragement to players and coaches on game day He also ran the athletic school store affectionately called Len s Den where he held court and interacted personally with every student in the school Mike Gizzi 94 Mike received nine varsity letters in football basketball and track Mike was Co Captain of both the Independence League champion football and Inter Ac basketball team his senior year and was a member of Inter Ac champion track team Mike was recognized as the Most Outstanding Player on the basketball team and scored 1 346 points in his career He also received the J L Patterson Cup and was recognized as the Most Outstanding Athlete in the senior class Mike earned a basketball scholarship to play for LaSalle University where he was Captain his junior and senior years scoring 1 362 points Mike s professional career began in 1998 when he was first overall draft selection for Atlantic City Seagulls which won the USBL Championship that year He continued on to play for various teams for twelve seasons in European Professional Basketball ten of which were in Italy For five of the seasons Mike was elected Captain by his teammates as well as held five individual scoring titles In 04 05 he was voted MVP of his League Jack Plunkett H

    the Four with Coxswain winning a silver medal at the Junior World Championships He also played basketball and wrestled at CHA He rowed for four years at Harvard and was elected captain for his senior year John made the All Ivy League First Team in 1980 Bailey Bailey George Bailey 79 David Sims 71 Dave was the first African American to play on three varsity teams at CHA football basketball and baseball He twice won the Outstanding Baseball Player Award He also won Most Improved Football Player Award As a senior Dave was named to the All Inter Ac Honorable Mention Football team A nationally known broadcaster with two Emmy Awards for play by play Dave has called games for the NFL NCAA Final Four Basketball Major League Baseball and Big East Football and Basketball Dave has also worked as a sports anchor reporter talk show host and sportswriter Stephen Belmonte 95 Steve earned 11 Varsity letters at CHA in soccer football basketball baseball and track He was co captain and All Inter Ac in soccer basketball and baseball as well as All League in football as the kicker Steve was a winner of the J L Patterson Cup as well as the Lawrence Mallery Scholar Athlete Award He was named the Lawrence Gibbons Number One Scholar Athlete in Philadelphia and the William Ferguson Outstanding Scholar Basketball player in the Inter Ac Steve was also the recipient of the prestigious Gold and Silver Medals from the Alumni Association At Princeton University Steve was a three year starter on the soccer team and named to All Ivy League and All New Jersey soccer teams Frank Laverell 29 Frank excelled on the football and baseball teams at CHA He was the captain of the 1929 Inter Ac Championship baseball team that outscored the opposition 100 runs to 30 He was the star quarterback on the football team making All Inter Ac in his senior year While at CHA he was the president of the Athletic Association and his class as well as the winner of the Gold and Silver Medals He went on to play quarterback on the 150 pound football team at the University of Pennsylvania He returned to CHA to help coach numerous teams including the successful 1941 Hall of Fame football team Robert McDonnell H 06 Maje was a legendary baseball and basketball coach and former Assistant Athletic Director at CHA during the 1960s and 1970s Before coming to CHA Maje was the bullpen coach for the pennant winning 1950 Philadelphia Phillies In addition Maje has served the Phillies as a player scout and most recently as a public relations officer A recipient of four World Series rings with the Phillies Maje is also a member of Villanova University s Hall of Fame for his contributions both as a baseball pitcher and as captain of the basketball team Maje is also a member of both the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame for baseball and basketball Through the
