    following benefits Satisfaction of being a part of the Arboretum and supporting its mission Recognition in a special section of the Year in Review our annual report Invitations to special Arboretum Events held especially for our donors Planned Gifts Bequests Providing a bequest to the Scott Arboretum is a meaningful way to ensure that its variety of plants and many specialized programs continue to grow and thrive Bequests from Gertude Wister and others who loved the Arboretum have helped form the basis for the Arboretum s current endowment Endowment funds supporting horticultural endeavors currently generate about 70 to 90 of our operating budget The Arboretum uses planned gifts as you designate If you specify a bequest be treated as endowment the funds will be invested and will grow over time You may tailor a bequest to fit your individual needs and wishes and may save substantial amounts in estate gift income and capital gains taxes while supporting the Arboretum For more details click here How to make a Bequest You may make an unrestricted bequest to allow the gift to be applied where the need is greatest You may also earmark a bequest for a specific cause such as endowment funds for a specific garden or special project Funds of 25 000 or greater may be named and managed as separate funds gifts of less than 25 000 specified as endowment will be added to existing restricted Arboretum endowment funds If you are considering restricting your gift we would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your ideas and the language you plan to use before you finalize the gift to ensure your aims are realized It is important to give your attorney our full name and address as well as specifying that the gift is to go to the distinct mission

    s Farmer s Market in plant sales orchard pruning and harvesting Adam Glas Gardener joined the staff in 2012 Before that he worked as Nursery Manager at Terrain at Styer s Nursery in Glen Mills He was accepted into the Longwood Gardens Professional Gardener PG Training Program completing that program in 2006 He currently serves as president for the PG Alumni Association and vice president of the board of managers at Chenoa Manor He studied Horticulture and Landscape Design at University of Wisconsin River Falls Charles Hinkle Gardener joined the staff full time in 1998 Previously he was a gardener at Friends Hospital in Philadelphia He holds a B S in horticulture from Temple University Jeff Jabco Director of Grounds and Coordinator of Horticulture has been on staff since 1990 Before coming to Swarthmore he worked for Penn State University Cooperative Extension as a horticulture agent in southeastern Pennsylvania he also owned and operated a garden design and vegetable production business He is a graduate of Penn State University and has a Master s degree from North Carolina State University in Horticulture Plant Breeding and Plant Pathology Jennifer James is the 2015 2016 Education Intern Most recently she served as Education Director for Columbia Springs Environmental Education Center while also pursuing her Master of Education degree at Portland State University In her free time she operated a small scale organic cut flower farm on leased land Jennifer has a Certificate in Ecological Horticulture from the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems CASFS at UC Santa Cruz She has gardened and farmed in many beautiful places including Salt Spring Island BC Hawaii and New Zealand She also holds a Bachelors in Fine Arts and Art History from Ohio University Of all the media she has worked with she is most inspired by trees plants and flowers Julie Jenney returned as the Educational Programs Coordinator in 2007 She served in the same position at the Scott Arboretum from 1999 to 2003 During her time away she was the major gifts and special projects coordinator at Descanso Gardens Guild in La Canada Flintridge CA and Business Developer and Horticulturist at Estate Gardens by ValleyCrest in Los Angeles CA She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oregon Eugene OR and certificates in Landscape Design and Landscape Management Nursery Management with a major in Environmental Horticulture from College of San Mateo CA Nicole Selby Gardener joined the staff in 2006 Prior to graduating from Swarthmore College she studied agriculture at the University of Maryland She was employed at a Chester County organic Community Supported Agriculture CSA farm and managed the vegetable production and environmental education programs at a Washington DC urban farm she is a Northeast Organic Farming Association NOFA Accredited Organic Land Care Professional Sheila Magee Gardener joined the staff in 2004 Prior to that Sheila was an active volunteer for the Scott Associates beginning in 2002 A graduate of Swarthmore College Sheila worked at Styer s Nurseries taught for
