    SD1 Board Meetings SD1 Financial Records Bids RFPs RFQs New payment options now available Spring clean storm drains See All News 05 17 2016 SD1 Board of Directors Meeting 05 30 2016 Offices Closed Memorial Day 06 21 2016 SD1 Board of Directors Meeting See All Events Dax Blake P E Deputy Executive Director Operations Mr Blake joined SD1 as Deputy Executive Director of Operation in 2016 As such he oversees Treatment Plant and Pump Station Operations Fleet Operations Facility Maintenance and Collection System Operations including Customer Service and Construction Prior to joining SD1 Mr Blake served as the Administrator for the City of Columbus Ohio Division of Sewerage and Drainage for 9 years As the Administrator Mr Blake oversaw all facets of the regional sewer system that serves the Central Ohio community including two large treatment plants a composting facility sewer maintenance engineering and regulatory compliance including consent order obligations During his tenure he oversaw the single largest capital improvement in the history of the city the OARS Tunnel Project He also led the development of Blueprint Columbus a new integrated plan that addresses sewer overflows and basement backups by addressing problems on private property and cleaning storm water with green infrastructure Before being named Administrator Mr Blake joined the City in 2005 as Assistant Administrator overseeing all engineering for the Division of Sewerage and Drainage From 1998 to 2005 Mr Blake was employed by Malcolm Pirnie Inc in Columbus Ohio as a Project Manager During his time at Malcolm Pirnie he oversaw sanitary sewer masterplans in many communities including Columbus Lancaster Newark and Portsmouth Ohio The most notable accomplishment was the development of the Wet Weather Management Plan Columbus first program to address sewer overflows Prior to Malcolm Pirnie Mr Blake was a project engineer with Beling Consultants

    that risk is compounded by the roofs roads and parking lots that keep water from soaking into the ground Instead these and other impervious surfaces cause storm water runoff to travel over the land On the surface storm water runoff can pick up pollutants erode the soil and flood our neighborhoods When it makes its way into wastewater pipes through damaged lines or improper connections it can overwhelm sanitary sewers and send sewage backing up into residents basements or spilling out into neighborhoods These are problems seen across the country but SD1 works to protect Northern Kentucky against them through innovative and cost effective projects and programs Storm water management program SD1 works to maintain hundreds of miles of publicly owned storm sewers and thousands of associated storm structures but managing storm water in Northern Kentucky a diverse region with everything from urban core to rural farmland requires more than simply maintaining pipe in the ground infrastructure SD1 s regional storm water management program also plays a major role in reducing the risk of flooding in the region Storm water needs require prioritization While it can be frustrating to experience periodic problems during wet weather SD1 must take a holistic approach to address storm water issues As a result funding and improvements are prioritized based on the following factors to ensure maximum benefit for the community Risk to public health Risk to sensitive areas Magnitude of the problem Cities can take action too Northern Kentucky s storm drainage system is more than just closed pipes catch basins and culverts It also relies on a network of open conveyances including ditches ponds swales and streams Both the open and closed infrastructure that makes up the region s storm water control system may be owned and operated by either public or private
