    is available to answer any questions Social Media Currently the SDAFP website is being updated and will have a new look by the fall of 2014 For the last 3 years we have had online registration for our meetings and that has been well received by the membership We do have a Facebook page however it does not get a lot of traffic Our newsletter the SDAFP News is produced and published twice a year with numerous blast emails to supplement throughout the year Advocacy For the last 6 years we have had representative from our board of directors attend the Family Medicine Congressional Conference in Washington DC We have had direct contact with our representatives and their healthcare aides and have been able to bring our concerns to them in our nation s capital This year our focus was pipeline issues We will hopefully be bringing that message to Pierre this spring as we are currently working on a grant to host an advocacy day at our state legislature Students We meet and provide lunch to the first year students each fall and share with them the benefits of being a student member of the SDAFP AAFP We also sponsor several FMIG activities throughout the year For the last 3 years we have co sponsored a service learning project for approximately 55 first year medical students to the Pierre Indian Learning Center Along with the service project the students meet with the Governor the state epidemiologist and other state officials They also observe and are recognized by both the House of Representatives and the Senate giving them the opportunity to understand the importance of state advocacy Resident Members For ten years we have had 100 resident membership in the SDAFP Each year we have funding available for a number
