    Institutional Member only events registration may only be confirmed by emailing events sidw org Do I have to RSVP for an event SID Washington prefers that you register in advance for any of our events so that we know how much material to bring and to we do not exceed capacity restrictions in the designated venue space What happens if I register for an event but cannot attend Please let SID Washington know as soon as possible if you cannot attend an event We print event fliers and speaker biographies according to the number of people that RSVP so canceling in advance helps us save resources Are recordings of the events available We have recordings and a summary of the event available on our Past Events section of our website for our current members Can Non Members attend events Non Members are welcome to attend all SID Washington events that are open to the public However some SID Washington events are closed to non members or may have a cost associated for non members to attend How do I receive the newsletter You can sign up for our weekly newsletter on our Homepage There is a box at the bottom of the page that says Newsletter Enter your email address here to receive a newsletter You do not have to be a member to receive the newsletter which is sent out every Monday Who can post things in the newsletter Only our current institutional members can post events in our weekly newsletter If your organization is not an institutional member SID Washington may post the information through our social media Twitter LinkedIn and Facebook at our discretion When do I have to send in my information for it to be included in the newsletter All information must be sent in to events sidw org by 10 am on Monday to be included in the weekly newsletter Current Members What if I forgot my username and password You can use the request new password option when attempting to login If you still cannot access your account call SID Washington directly at 202 331 1317 and one of our associates can reset it for you I have not received my copy of the Development Journal what should I do SID Washington members only receive hard copies of the Development Journal during their first year of membership After the first year you will receive online versions SID International handles the publication and distribution of the Development Journal but for online access you can visit their website at www sidint net and login using the same login information you use for the SID Washington website Why I Belong to SID W I am very grateful to SID Washington As a 30 year member of the organization I applaud SID Washington s commitment to airing multiple perspectives on controversial and timely issues SID Washington s proven ability to assemble diverse groups and fine minds to discuss and debate important issues with passion and mutual respect

    institutional development etc To download the 2016 Andrew E Rice Award Application please click here Applicants must also submit a three page maximum single sided resume or c v Documentation provided in addition to the application form one page personal statement two letters of recommendation and c v resume will not be reviewed Nomination Process Candidates for the award must complete the application form and may submit up to two one page letters of recommendation support describing The association with the candidate and the length of time associated with the candidate The qualities and experiences that make the candidate distinct in the criteria areas Why the person recommending supporting his her nomination believes the candidate should be selected for the Rice Award Selection Process The selection committee is comprised of international development professionals drawn from across the international development community including senior practitioners and young professionals Donations Please contact us if you would like to donate to the Rice Award We thank you for your generosity for donations received Contact Information If you have any questions or concerns please email riceaward sidw org About Andrew E Rice Andrew E Rice helped create the field of international development In the decades following World War II decolonization and the Cold War necessitated a new relationship between the Western and developing worlds That s when Andy began thinking and writing about the nature of this new relationship and organizing others to do the same Andy was introduced to internationalism early on spending part of his childhood in Geneva where his father was the U S representative to an agency of the League of Nations After serving in intelligence during the War and obtaining his undergraduate and master s degrees from Harvard he moved to Washington to begin a 60 year career crafting public policy He began by joining or helping to form a series of advocacy organizations dedicated to an internationalist foreign policy incorporating aid for the underdeveloped world These included Americans for Democratic Action the American Veterans Committee and the Point Four Committee this last named for foreign aid s position in President Truman s list of diplomatic priorities in his 1949 inaugural address He also began publishing a newsletter Doorway to the 20th Century to report on this brand new discipline His longtime friend and colleague Bob Berg recently recalled In the pre Internet age it was THE place to find the news crisply written with never a hint of bias After stints as a staffer on both sides of Capitol Hill and obtaining his PhD from Syracuse University Andy served on the academic committee that gave birth to the Peace Corps He then joined the Kennedy Administration as an aide to Chester Bowles a prominent diplomat to the developing world and early UN official Andy was a founder of the Society for International Development SID in 1957 and in 1962 became executive director a position he held for 15 years Bob Berg has described the scene from that era SID
