Getting Organized is a Big Fat Waste of Time For many of us getting organized is the fun part We love buying materials for new craft projects We love school supplies We ll make our lists and schedules and even organize our recipes We ll spend all of our time planning and getting ready but then starting to work on those projects stumps us So what do we do We organize some more If you ve wondered why some people are so productive how they manage to finish those projects and accomplish so many things it s not just because they re organized Being organized is not enough you also need to be willing to take chances and try something that is hard You have to be willing to start Cut into that fabric even if the finished piece won t be as pretty as you imagined it Bake that new recipe even if it flops and the whole thing winds up in the trash Send that difficult email instead of organizing your email inbox first We often think about organization in terms of appearance if it looks pretty if it looks calm and orderly if you can find what you need then it s organized But organization is every bit as much about usefulness as it is about appearance and something is only useful if you use it Sometimes organizing masquerades as productivity when it is often another form of busyness Don t let organization be a tool for procrastinating something that is hard to start Do you have a project that you ve been getting ready for Take a risk and get started I know I have a couple of things I ve been wanting to do 53 Comments Ask Doug Dealing with Husband s Old Computer Parts Helping to fix things or explaining why men still wear their oldest t shirt Doug gives us the man s perspective My husband has a room full of old computer parts help Covered with keyboards in Phoenix AZ I have heard this can happen I think it would help if I try to shed some light on the inner workings of a man s mind where it relates to computer parts It s cool to fix something computers are cool if I fix a computer I m cool There may be nothing you can do about this room Also I would like you to know that there are worse things that can fill a room than old computer parts Seriously though I spent a large part of my growing up years wishing we could afford nice computers Technology kept changing and leaping forward and wow that stuff was really great The techie geek kid in me longed for that stuff dreamed about it Today the stuff of my kid dreams is going in the trash and the Flash Gordon type technology is all around us It is very hard to look at that old stuff without thinking about how it

stress out and feel embarrassed for waking up late I was at odds with the day and other people It s hard to be a night owl Everyone tells you it s better to wake up early and it seems like no one appreciates the things you did while everyone else was asleep One night I stayed up until two a m working on my own thing only to be woken up at five with a sick kid It was a difficult day and I was woefully unprepared I also wrote my blog posts at night so it wouldn t interfere with my family Then one day I tried writing a post during the morning instead and I realized that it only took half the time What did that say about my productivity at night Maybe staying up late wasn t as helpful as I thought There is a big difference between alertness and productivity I had tons of ideas but I wasn t truly fully able to act on any of those fresh ideas late at night What good is inspiration without action I started going to bed earlier It didn t feel natural I had to choose to do it Some say to gradually set your alarm back a few more minutes each morning to wake up earlier I went cold turkey and started going to bed and waking up early If you wake up early for a few days in a row then you ll be tired at night Practical tips are to exercise avoid caffeine and have a nighttime routine but you probably know that already You just have to decide that it s worth it to try it for a few days and see for yourself Even now I don t wake up bright eyed It takes me ten minutes or so to get going in the morning but getting out of bed isn t painful like it used to be and I m ready for the day If it s good for your kids to go to bed early then why isn t it good for you too Be your own mom and tell yourself to go to bed Which comes naturally to you Do you enjoy the mornings or do you like the night life 68 Comments My Real Life Practical Daily Routine Photo of my popup paper dollhouse Recently I received an email from a reader with a question I was wondering what your daily routine looks like When I read that my first thought was Yes I wish I knew that too My routine changes I have to stay flexible Small children can divert and change the best laid plans If I were to write my routine on poster board with a permanent marker I d have to tear it up as soon as I finished because it would need to be different Instead of having a schedule that would be ignored day after day in real life I follow a
