  • Adding Worms - Small Notebook
Unfortunately they were not cute at all 12 These are red worms which are great for composting because they like food scraps and can thrive in the conditions of worm bins I added the worms to the bin with the dirt they came in 13 I added some of the shipping paper to the bin and then sprinkled a cup of water over the entire bin 14 The lid was fastened on the bin The fluffy bedding makes the bin look full but it settles after a day or two 15 The bin is stored inside a dark cabinet under the kitchen sink I m tempted to check on them to see how they re doing but they really just need to be left alone so they can adjust to new surroundings and get to work These are the step by step photos of how I set up my worm compost bin The written instructions with more information are at How to Make a Worm Compost Bin This photo series is Part 2 of 2 Previously The Apartment Compost Bin Advertisements Hi I m Rachel I ll help you simplify your home Share this site Pin it Get new posts

stuff I even successfully ignored a Wonder Woman piñata buckled in the back seat of my car for months What method works best for you to start noticing clutter 60 Comments How to Deal With the Keepsakes You Shouldn t Save I like journals but I m a selective recorder Some things are better left in the past At the end of my time here I want my cherished keepsakes to fill a box not a storage unit Doing this means letting go of the keepsakes that have a neutral or negative quality and it s not just so mementos can fit in a box of a certain size but so I can enjoy them now It s not automatically easy so here is a guide to help you sort through keepsakes that you shouldn t be keeping Neutral Keepsakes Neutral keepsakes are what I call short term keepsakes They are appreciated now but you don t need to save them for all time You certainly wouldn t need to scrapbook them These are usually pieces of paper such as greeting cards a program from an event you went to or a participation certificate a thanks for coming gift that s not really too important The way to know for sure if something is a short term keepsake is to see how you feel about it as time goes by If you care about it less and less you won t miss it later Go ahead and recycle it Be sure the things you are saving are about you and your family You don t need to save the program from a friend s wedding ceremony just to prove you care about her That belongs in her keepsake box not yours Negative Keepsakes Negative keepsakes the things you save because they feel like part of your life story but they make you cringe such as bad photographs and journals about feeeeeeelings are something you should deal with too I have years worth of diaries or journals that I am not sure what to do with I don t want anyone else to read them and yet some have almost a negative sentimental value I still keep a small calendar each year and write what happened each day helps for medical family events things to remember if need be Any advice as to letting go M Read more 120 Comments 11 Tips to Host a Group of Overnight Guests I enjoy having guests drop by without a lot of notice and that happens often Surprise guests are easier because you don t have to clean much ahead of time They get what they get It s real life living On Friday last week one of Doug s work associates stopped by in the morning We live in a location that s really convenient It was breakfast time so my kitchen was messy but at least the kids were dressed so I fixed him a scrambled egg and a few slices of

organized and ready Are you planning to clean out your closet too 35 Comments How to Repot a Fern I ve realized and accepted that I am a Martha style gardener I like to read about plants look at them buy them in garden centers and picture where they will go at my house I m pleased with myself when I can name the plants I admire in other people s yards Just like Martha I would prefer to have a crew of gardeners do the actual work of gardening like remembering to water those plants There was a day this summer when the heat rose even hotter and all of my spring plants and flowers died on the very same day in one mass exodus Show s over folks we re done here The fern survived not by my care but by neglect I left it next to the driveway on a little strip where only weeds grew which just happened to have the right amount of sunlight and shade The fern thrived and outgrew its first pot Dividing and repotting a fern is good for it so that it doesn t become root bound and lacking in nutrients It s easy enough to repot a fern that even a Martha style gardener can do it Read more 20 Comments Clear the Clutter the Laundry Area What my laundry room has going for it besides the facts that it s an actual room and it has a window which I love is that it s the smallest room in the house and therefore the closest to being finished In a house full of renovation projects that is a very big deal We have already put in a new tile floor new paint and replaced the light fixture Now what
