  • Concerts | New Zealand Sri Chinmoy Centre
soul An experience beyond music Our concerts always free of charge offer music for a more peaceful world elevating energising and soothing sounds are performed on a variety of traditional and exotic instruments by musicians from the Sri Chinmoy Centre All of the songs have a common spiritual theme they all deal with the inner journey the journey towards enlightenment Inspiring and uplifting the music invokes a feeling of inner peace and invites the listener into a meditative calm and stillness The concerts offer an interactive experience in which both performers and audience try to create together an atmosphere that nourishes heart and spirit Many of the songs are in Sri Chinmoy s native Bengali a rich language well suited to poetry and lyrical expression Many have simple melody lines that are sung repeatedly in the style of a mantric chant Among our performers the women wear saris and the men white clothing traditionally these honour the spiritual purpose and reflect the sacredness of the journey which the music reflects The concerts are one of many initiatives of the Sri Chinmoy Centre in our efforts to outwardly offer the fruits of our spiritual practice Music brings us together in a spirit of happiness and frees us from the burdens of everyday life Music means Self expansion and oneness The Self expands through music The Self that expands is not the individual self but the unlimited Self Music is the expansion of unlimited Reality When we listen to soulful music or when we ourselves play soulful music immediately our inner existence climbs up high higher highest When we hear soulful music or play a soulful piece of music we feel a kind of inner thrill in our entire existence From the soles of our feet to the crown of our head

students we endeavour to meet together nationally at least once a month By coming together as a spiritual family we are able to share and also multiply our enthusiasm inspiration and joy while recharging our spiritual batteries in one of New Zealand s many places of natural beauty Sri Chinmoy enjoys a light hearted moment joy is essential in life Our Joy Weekends are a dynamic modern form of spirituality a new blend of silence and action for the singular purpose of joy where neither tradition or ritual cave or cathedral are prerequisite to the elevation of consciousness A typical Joy Weekend sees activities such as sports and games running and tramping combined with traditional spiritual pursuits like meditation and singing It is a melding of the simple child like qualities of spontaneity and enthusiasm with the meditative states of tranquility and poise all for the uncomplicated invocation of joy In Sri Chinmoy s own words I wish to say that if this is not meditation what else is meditation Meditation does not mean to enter into the Himalayan caves and keep our mouth eyes and ears shut That is not meditation Perhaps in the hoary past the Indian ascetics

The Oneness Heart Tears and Smiles Worldwide Humanitarian Service Humanitarian Aid Project Established in New York in 1991 The Oneness Heart Tears and Smiles programme has provided humanitarian aid to many countries around the world Our organisation is made up entirely of volunteers with representatives from New Zealand the United States Europe Japan and Australia The program seeks to alleviate the sufferings of our brothers and sisters of the world and to bring hope in a tangible way to those less fortunate than ourselves Our efforts are small on a global scale however we believe that such work is important in the way in which it builds bridges between communities and nations From 1991 to 1998 humanitarian aid supplies flowed into Russia from Europe and the USA From 1998 to 2000 shipments were sent to other countries including India Indonesia the Kyrgyz Republic and the Marshall Islands In 2000 a container shipment of clothing and household items was sent to Mozambique for victims of flooding This was the first initiative that volunteers in New Zealand were involved in with large amounts of clothing and household goods collected In July 2002 following an appeal for help for thousands of children in Angola who had lost their homes as a result of 27 years of civil war a major effort was launched by our members in New Zealand Our national organisation currently sends medical pharmaceutical and educational supplies to over 21 nations primarily in the South Pacific region One of our most popular initiatives is the Kids to Kids program in which New Zealand schoolchildren collect personal and educational supplies for their counterparts in the Pacific This has created much goodwill and friendship among thousands of schoolchildren in our region of the world Kindly use our Contact Form if you would like

  • The Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team in New Zealand | New Zealand Sri Chinmoy Centre
24 hour Championship track race to distances including the marathon half marathon 15 10 5 and 3 2kms Each year the global Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team stages over 500 events world wide from 100 metres to multi day ultra marathons These include races such as the world s longest footrace of 3 100 miles and Australia s largest participant triathlon in Canberra Sri Chinmoy s life philosophy of inner and outer dynamism and joyful self transcendence go hand in hand with sports physical fitness health balance and inner peace In his own words Unless you touch something every day it does not shine Often I have told people to touch the furniture in their homes every day As soon as you touch something it gets new life If you are aware of something immediately it shines and gets a new luminosity If you have good health if you touch your health every day it gets new life By giving attention to something you give new life to it We have the body and we have the soul A spiritual person has to give equal importance to both the body and the soul If he pays attention only to the body if he becomes physically strong but spiritually very weak then for him there will be no peace of mind or inner happiness If someone does not get any exercise at all then the physical will remain unlit lethargic and a real hindrance to the aspirant If the physical consciousness does not aspire it will remain separated from the soul Then rest assured you will never be able to achieve perfection The physical has to aspire in its own way to increase its capacity so that it can hold light Then the physical will contribute to the spiritual and you will
