    STM Frankfurt Conference 2016 6th December STM Digital Publishing 2016 7th December Innovations Seminar 2016 8th December STM Week 2016 Day 3 Other Events Past Events Industry Events Documents Press Members Area Research4Life Outreach patientINFORM Research4Life Programmes ARDI HINARI AGORA OARE Home Research4Life Outreach patientINFORM patientINFORM http www patientinform org patient INFORM is a free online service that provides patients and their carers with access to some of the most up to date reliable and important research available about the diagnosis and treatment of specific diseases In patient INFORM consumers have the ability to not only read the latest research but also to find help interpreting that information and accessing additional materials Sponsored and coordinated by STM and the Professional Scholarly Publishing Division of the Association of American Publishers patient INFORM is a collaborative effort by voluntary health organizations VHOs medical societies health information professionals and scholarly and medical publishers It was launched in July 2005 By working with the VHOs patient information professionals original research is made accessible to patients in an appropriate context making it easier to understand research findings patient INFORM empowers healthcare consumers to have improved discussions with their physicians and make informed decisions about care How it Works In Summary VHOs keep up to date with the latest research in their field via access to around 1000 subscription based journals from participating publishers VHOs produce lay summaries of what they judge to be key articles and can create links to the full text of these articles on the publishers web sites without users encountering paywalls This means that patients and carers can get an intelligible summary of the most significant and important latest research but can also access and print out the research article on which the summary is based and share it with their

    up to 3400 journals and 2000 books through 2300 institutions In OARE Online Access to Research in the Environment 2300 institutions have registered for access to up to 4800 journals and 8300 books from some 110 publishers ARDI Access to Research for Development and Innovation is sponsored by the World Intellectual Property Organization and is Research4Life s newest programme Currently 17 publishers are providing access to around 3000 journals and 7000 books through 100 institutions Over 75 of all the journals in the Research4Life programmes are published by publishers who are members of the International Association of Scientific Technical and Medical Publishers STM and STM is a major sponsor of Research4Life Cornell University s Mann Library agriculture and Yale University Library are key partners in the programmes providing much of the essential backroom and bibliographic infrastructure Additionally Yale s School of Forestry and Environmental Studies supports field work in OARE Research4Life s lead technical partner is Microsoft which supports many of the systems which make the programmes possible HINARI was launched in 2002 AGORA in 2003 OARE in 2006 and ARDI joined Research4Life in 2010 During 2006 two independent reviews funded by the UK s Department for International Development looked at how HINARI and AGORA were working both for the users and for the participating organizations As a result of these reviews the publishers the participating UN organizations and Yale and Cornell universities decided to continue these programmes in line with the time span of the UN s eight Millennium Development Goals due for implementation by 2015 HINARI AGORA and now OARE were reviewed again in 2010 in terms of how the programmes are working for the users whether they are fulfilling the partners expectations and whether we are beginning to see how effective they might be in helping authors from the developing world have their research published In spite of continuing ITC challenges faced in the developing countries and some internal technical and communication issues we have started to resolve the Reviews were very positive and the partners subsequently re affirmed their long term commitment to the programmes through 2020 Usage of the content provided under Research4Life continues to grow in the HINARI programme alone logins increased by nearly 60 in the two years to the end of 2012 More information View a presentation giving a brief overview of Research4Life Making a Difference This 20 page booklet brings together a series of reports from the field in which users demonstrate how access to peer reviewed scientific research via the Research4Life programmes has transformed their work life and community Research4Life Partner Newsletters now available Research4Life Partner Newsletter July 2013 Research4Life Partner Newsletter November 2012 Research4Life Partner Newsletter June 2012 Research4Life Partner Newsletter December 2011 Research4Life Partner Newsletter January 2011 New Reports for Research4Life released 20 September 2010 Research4Life Infrastructure Review 2010 Executive Summary Research4Life User Experience Review Summary of Findings Research4Life on YouTube View the R4L YouTube Channel What do I get from STM What we do Research4Life programmes offer
