    in this tutorial The accessibility of the web empowers your volunteers or other stakeholders to start fundraising campaigns on your behalf Web tools allow volunteers and other stakeholders to start fundraising campaigns for your organization This can help you reach people with whom you may not otherwise have had contact The web allows your supporters to customize and personalize their own messaging Web tools allow for easy reporting and information gathering on your donors You can easily track who gave money how much and when they donated The web is also great for bringing attention to mini fundraising campaigns based around a specific project or event This movement of asking people you already know to raise money is sometimes known as citizen philanthropy You may also hear it referred to as viral or person to person fundraising Web tools give fundraisers a voice they never had before With the rise of interactive tools social networking and widely read blogs the average person can now publicize his or her interest in a cause and attract significant attention The report card and comparison table evaluate and illustrate the different features of each tool This tutorial will review four tools for online fundraising

  • 2 - Causes on Facebook - Online Tools for Web 2.0 Fundraising
    at the top and select Start a Cause You can then enter your cause s mission and designate an organization you d like donations to go to As long as your organization is a registered nonprofit with the IRS you can receive donations through Facebook Causes See the image above from an example of a Cause page This particular cause is called We Care Services for Children and its mission is to provide resources for children and families dealing with special needs The page branding still carries Facebook s logo but a user can add his or her organization s logo photos and a Donate button The About tab offers a place for a user to post customized information about the cause You can write an introduction that provides background on your cause and add a paragraph about your specific fundraising campaign You can also add up to five short positions which are succinct points of information about the cause for example location mission statement website target audience etc If you scroll down the page you will see an area specifically devoted to fundraising which shows the money you ve raised so far You also have the option to enter a fundraising goal that you want to meet by a certain date Additional Cause page features include donor recognition lists and the option for supporters to post media or write messages Under the Members tab you will find a hall of fame that lists donors and their pledge amounts This tab recognizes and ranks supporters in three unique categories people who have donated the most money people who have recruited the most members to the cause and people who have recruited the most donors new members who have joined the cause and subsequently pledged money Your Cause s Home tab

    The site also features a section called Fundraising123 which has training and webinars to help you learn how to effectively raise money Network for Good is also connected to GuideStar a database of all registered nonprofits that draws info directly from the IRS As long as your organization s information is up to date with the IRS supporters will be able to search for and find you on Network for Good and send donations directly to your group Charity badges are customizable widgets that share information and collect donations Charity badges are fundraising widgets that users can create on Network for Good The badges share basic information about a cause using one image 250 characters of text and a video Badges allow users to personalize their cause and explain why it s important to them For example if someone wants to raise money for cancer research because they have been directly affected by the disease they could post a picture of themselves or a loved one instead of a generic logo for a cancer research organization People are 100 times more likely to donate to a cause when they know the person who s asking them for a donation and a personalized message can help boost those odds Once you ve created your badge by walking through the steps on Network for Good s site you can post it elsewhere on the web by using an HTML code You can paste this code into emails Evites web invitations MySpace pages or anywhere else that accepts HTML You ll also be provided with a unique URL a unique web address for your badge You can paste this link into emails onto Facebook etc By clicking on it users will be taken to a site that has only your charity badge on

    you can really get your organization s branding out there AlumniFidelity will help an organization set up a page but it does take about a week A 7 0 7 5 fee on all donations covers administrative costs After you have registered your organization on AlumniFidelity supporters can create a page to fundraise for you Your supporters can personalize a text description or you can require them to use standard text issued by your organization though this is discouraged Supporters can add pictures or a video of their own or from the organization They can give their page a title and the organization can add the organization s logo and change the page colors to match the logo In the example above the woman is raising funds for the Arthritis Foundation and has titled her page One Joint at a Time She has added a picture of herself a description of why the cause is important to her and a YouTube video created by the Arthritis Foundation AlumniFidelity makes it easy to gather donations and gives fundraisers lots of control In terms of the page s look you ll see a Donate button without having to scroll down at all which makes it easily accessible to page viewers Above the Donate button are two others Spread the Word which allows you to email the page to friends and Start a New Fundraising Campaign which lets a user set up his or her own page Finally the Manage Your Appeals section is a great way to organize your email contacts and manage your communications The system tells you the last time you reached out to each potential donor Once someone has made a donation the system reminds you to send them a thank you email and tracks who has already been
