    quality education FN How do you see your work empowering other campaigners JO We have a good track record at having our learners in dev aid speak these are our beneficiaries although we don t use that word return as volunteers Some 90 of our management committee comprises ex learners and so we are truly a by youth for youth organisation that shows that with the opportunity and a little support young people can do it for themselves FN What s the biggest challenge you have with handling information JO We are growing quite quickly we now have branches in three provinces and we need a simple flow of information However things are pretty ad hoc at the moment and although we re getting better at sharing information between branches and members we have a long way to go We also really need to learn about easy ways in which our learners can communicate with us using their mobile phones at a cheap rate FN Could you tell us something more about IkamvaYouth its background and how it s currently doing JO IkamvaYouth started in 2003 and has been increasingly better at realising its mission and expanding its reach with each year The far majority of our work is conducted by volunteers who tutor mentor provide computer literacy classes and run workshops for learners in grades 10 12 to enable them to access higher education and post school opportunities FN Please tell us something about Operation Fikelela Operation Fikelela Operation Access is our programme which brings ICT access and opportunities for skills development to our learners as well as the wider Khayelitsha community We have set up two computer labs in libraries in the Khayelitsha and Nyanga townships which run FOSS Free Libre and Open Source Software We have also
