    song and dance man whose performances are a lively collection of sophisticated footwork and wonderful songs He s performed in concert at both Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall At a time when tap dance was fading from Broadway and Hollywood Duncan s charm and talent captivated audiences weekly on the Lawrence Welk Show He brought the art form to a new medium allowing American across the nation to experience tap dance in their own homes Duncan has performed in Las Vegas in movies he was a featured personality in the movie Tap starring Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis Jr and toured with Tommy Tune in the Broadway show My One and Only He joined Bob Hope on several USO tours and even danced a high spirited tap in a McDonalds commercial Duncan is also a dedicated mentor and shares his spotlight experiences through lecture demonstrations and master tap classes He has been honored with the 2004 Flobert Award for Lifetime Achievement of Tap Artistry in New York City the 2005 Living Treasure in American Dance Award from Oklahoma City University and received an honorary Doctor of Performing Arts in American Dance at OCU as well CNADM is also excited to announce that world renowned tapper Brenda Bufalino will be coming to the Summer Dance Workshops July 18 25 2011 Oak Brook IL to accept an Artistic Achievement Award Brenda will also be teaching at Training School and Dance More Brenda Bufalino is a mixed genre artist choreographer and tap dancer singer story teller author and ceramicist She has performed her one person shows Internationally and has appeared as a guest soloist at Town Hall Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center among other major venues As artistic director choreographer of The American Tap Dance Orchestra she toured America and Europe with

    Chicago Human Rhythm Project CHRP the American tap dance and contemporary percussive arts now entering its 21st season have decided to join forces to establish the Collaborative Space for Sustainable Development This shared affordable and eventually self sufficient education rehearsal and administrative facility will help support the work of such small and midsize companies as The prominent River North Dance Chicago company Luna Negra Dance Theater the Latin based ensemble Jump Rhythm Jazz Project Kalapriya Center for the Performing Arts which celebrates Indian and Asian dance and music traditions and Ping Pong Productions which facilitates collaborations between Chinese and international artists A location is still to be determined but more than 500 000 has been raised so far from several major corporations and foundations with the John D and Catherine T MacArthur Foundation providing the lead grant of 275 000 over four years The project was the brainchild of Lane Alexander founder and director of the Chicago Human Rhythm Project and was realized in conjunction with Susan Oppenheimer CHRP s former board chairman READ MORE Time Out Chicago Quick Links Join the ITA Advertise coming soon Propose an Article Be considered for our Dancer Spotlight Submit an Event News Item

    youngest of six children born to Christina and John Edward Evelyn In the early 1940s Edwina and her partner Anne Baxter known as Edwina and Anne were featured in Harlem s Apollo Theatre with The Lucky Millender Band They also appeared the week of March 11 1942 with The Fats Waller Orchestra and Three Shades of Rhythm For several years Evelyn ventured out into the professional world as a solo performer The African American newspaper critics gave her the title Little Lady of Taps In 1944 Evelyn was teamed with Jewel Pepper Welch for a combination of Evelyn s Rhythm Tap and Welch s Flash The pair performed together as Salt and Pepper until 1954 They were featured in theatre and nightclub shows throughout the United States Salt lived in Greenwich Village She was acknowledged for her work and pioneering spirit of paving the way for women tap dancers Edwina Evelyn spent the last 20 years sharing her knowledge and experiences of the Swing Era with researchers and friends Quick Links Join the ITA Advertise coming soon Propose an Article Be considered for our Dancer Spotlight Submit an Event News Item or Feature Article Apply to be a Regional Representative

    the stage and the studio with her said OCU Dance Department Chairwoman Jo Rowan She is a great performer She speaks to the audience through her tap shoes with clarity and dynamics and she holds the audience with the same charisma that she brings to her tap classes I commend her to be one of Americas outstanding tap artists and teachers She is generous kind and a responsible person and I am proud to be her friend Dee is often referred to as a teacher s teacher because of her reputation as a technician and dynamic stylist She is recognized as a master teacher in the U S Japan France South America and Canada As a guest faculty for the prestigious Tradition in Tap Inc National Tap Dance Day in Dallas St Louis Tap Festival and many other tap events Dee has shared her knowledge and expertise around the country She currently works on convention platforms instructing teachers and students for many major dance organizations including Dance Olympus Dance Masters of America Florida Dance Masters Dance Educators of America Dance Teacher Conference and Dance Makers The Debbi Dee Tap Intensive is recognized by Dance Teacher as a higher education course for teachers Dee has performed professionally as a soloist on Broadway at Lincoln Center in Las Vegas and at USO shows as well as performing on television and in movies She has held the title of choreographer dance captain and assistantchoreographer to many Off Broadway productions as well as at industrials fashion shows and professional and community theaters Dee is a protégé of Henry LeTang and cherishes working side by side with him OCU s world renowned Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Arts Management was the first in the nation in higher education to emphasize the American dance
