    this message with your civic group go to TCA s water recycling page at http www tcatexas org water recycling Third Time s the Charm for TexasState Park Funding The 2015 legislative session saw a huge victory for our state parks with passage of House Bill 158 In the third session of trying legislation passed almost unanimously which guarantees that all the tax revenues collected from the purchase of camping hunting and other outdoor gear will be used to fund Texas state parks and historical sites Our state parks have a profound impact on every person who lives in or visits our great state and they are the most visible example of how the state takes care of its most iconic institutions said Rep Lyle Larson sponsor of the measure The governor held a formal signing ceremony for the bill at the Capitol June 8 Texans love their parks and by an overwhelming majority want park funding to be substantial and honestly appropriated so that their parks can remain attractive and attracting said George Bristol chair of the State Parks Advisory Committee HB 158 is a monumental achievement Plan Now to Attend a Teaming with Wildlife Eco Summit The Teaming with Wildlife coalition is hosting a series of five one day Eco Summits around Texas in July and August to advance wildlife conservation and discuss pressing regional issues related to wildlife wildlife habitat and TPWD s Conservation Action Plan Click below for registration information http www teamingtxwildlife com index php get informed July 10 Weslaco July 18 Fort Davis July 24 San Antonio July 31 Fort Worth August 11 San Antonio TCA Chairman Mack Turner and Vice Chair Mike Coker serve on the board of the State Park Advisory Committee Bristol made a special call to Mack to single out TCA s efforts to build support for HB 158 and to thank us Since 1993 the sales tax revenue generated by sporting goods has been statutorily allocated to fund state park operations capital and local park grants In past years however only a portion never more than 36 was actually appropriated for state parks The rest has been kept in general revenue to be spent on items unrelated to parks HB 158 will remedy this by ensuring 100 percent of sporting goods sales tax revenue collected will be used for parks and historical sites Congratulations and a big thanks to all of you who pitched in to help Two Close TCA Friends Honored for Gulf Conservation Congratulations are in order for two close friends of TCA Susan Kaderka and Andrew Sansom They were among a small group of conservationits awarded the Champions of the Gulf award by the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies HRI at Texas A M University Corpus Christi for their work to protect the Gulf of Mexico Susan Kaderka Susan Kaderka is the Regional Executive Director for National Wildlife Federation s South Central Regional Center located in Austin Her work with restoring the Gulf

  • Mack Turner Honored with NWF Charlie Shaw Award - Texas Conservation Alliance
    was honored at a gala in Baltimore May 3rd 2014 with one of the National Wildlife Federation s most prestigious awards the Charlie Shaw Conservation Partnership Award Steve Allinger past chair of NWF described Mack s conservation Bryan Pritchett Senior Advisor to NWF s President and Mack Turner Chairman of TCA accomplishments saying that under Mack s leadership TCA has recruited more than 50 member organizations accomplished vital conservation initiatives and greatly expanded its influence Named in memory of a much admired NWF staffer the Charlie Shaw Award recognizes individuals who accomplish important goals in wildlife conservation and demonstrate the value of the relationship between NWF and its 48 state affiliates TCA has been the NWF affiliate from Texas since 1999 In accepting the award Mack expressed his great appreciation for the award and issued a challenge to TCA s fellow NWF state affiliates There s no question that climate change is the most crucial issue for the future of our country and the entire world said Mack TCA is focusing on municipal water recycling in Texas a key step in mitigating the impacts of climate change I challenge our fellow affiliate organizations each to launch a project related to
