kids prepping their jump by Sturt Mt P Olympic The Eyre T Bar The skiing was good on exhibition On Sunday Chris Ernst joined us for skiing on what I expected to be dust on crust Perisher had only reported 2cm when we left which they updated to 8cm on their mobile report How wrong they were We headed straight for international and had 4 runs from tower six with 10cm to 30cm of fresh The snow was dryish up top and heavy down low but consistent I was sad because my flat light goggles had started to fog between the lenses on Saturday and I was forced to use my bright light goggles forcing me to really ski by Braille After we tracked out interceptor we had another 4 runs down Boomerang on Eyre before a well earned break Each line we took down Boomerang gave us fresh tracks each run amazing for mid August After the break Tony and I still had functioning legs so we decided to head south of Shifty s and skied down to the road three times We had three fantastic runs The snow was untouched snow up to 40cm deep with enough rocks

in my age group I was thrilled I improved that much Blue Cow Sunrise Mt Twynam looking great Me telemarking in the SL masters race Guthega has a pretty good cover but we still need more snow The Saturday GS course was set on Zali s and I won the GS due to a Bradbury Zali must be better luck than Lindner The other competitor in my age group AJ who is significantly better than me had a big slide on his first run giving me the win But anyway once again I skied better than last year and my times moved from the bottom of the field to about two thirds of the way through the field After the race my wife and I met up with Chris Nicholson and after a good lunch at the Guthega Pub we had a run down Farm Creek It is still my favourite run at Perisher Up top it was lovely wind blown with some icy patches Lower down the snow was crusty but still not too hard to ski Jeremy in front of the pre dawn glow at Blue Cow before the GS Race Sunrise on Boot Hill More sunrise goodness

7am start for Slalom training on Zali s I was so determined for a dump of snow I bought up my Armada ARGs silly fat skis or the canoes to ski on in the afternoon I was excited to find some snow had fallen overnight but not enough and it was wet I improved in the gates but due to the dangerous snow one participant was taken off in a banana boat When I stepped out of the ski tube terminal at Perisher it was puking down with sago It wasn t settling much but it inspired me to take out the canoes and head for the area between the Mt P Double and Inter The canoes were skiable but awkward on the piste but they opened my skiing horizons in the off piste No matter how terrible variable and patchy the snow cover they made it fun I had four great runs followed by a run down Olympic I now heartily recommend fun shaped skis to any Australian skier To top off the day I caught a happy snap of the Monoskier with the flouro feet baskets The juniors slalom course on Lower Rollercoaster A FIS kid in the gates on Zali s Clearing gates people slipping the course Towers was messy Thanks to the canoes variable off piste mank was fun The snow is normally at the top of the fences Vista was very patchy Olympic was fun Big crowds at 10 30 am Friday Saturday Sunday At 6 30 things hadn t changed much since Saturday afternoon There was only 5cm of fresh at Blue Cow but it was snowing We didn t start GS training until 8 00am due to rime on the Summit chairs cables The GS course was cruisey and fast and after three

trashed Zali s before the public were allowed to ski it on Saturday and I was much less of a gumby than I was in the gates last year In the afternoon I joined up with Tony Nicholson and we quickly hiked Olympic It had become firm and crusty since Thursday but it there was still some nice turns to be had On Sunday it was GS training Once again I didn t feel like a total gumby in the gates and my GS turns improved a lot by practicing setting up my hip angulation before the turn really started All of the groomed areas at Blue Cow are in great nick and there appeared to be a decent line down both Kamikaze and Rock Garden Saturday sunrise before training Slalom training on Zali s Stubbies at the top of Zali s Side Saddle skiable We made a mess of Zali s before the public got to touch it The traverse from Guthega is open Accelerator is in great condition Tony getting ready for a run down Olympic Me enjoying the crusty mank on Olympic I m a hot skier Burnum Burnum reveals how little natural snow there is The

Skifree and I had a jaunt down outer limits and a quick hike of Olympic The snow was surprisingly good on Outer Limits the base had consolidated and the light snow from earlier in the week had settled nicely The cool conditions even kept the snow nice and dry and despite the rocks twigs and bushes acting as natural slalom gates we had a great ski The Front Valley Park

were open but were not in very good nick On Wednesday I spent most of the day doing field work for my Honours Project and some snow fell but sadly only a dusting The weather was miserable and even though Towers opened officially for the first time this winter sans poachers like me the weather was so cold and windy the run was almost empty Today was another clear and

nasty rain rain and more rain There is nothing more to say On Saturday morning I was sure the forecasted snow would fizzle into rain At 7 00am the Perisher AWS said 3 4 O C and I thought the cold air would miss us I didn t believe the flecks of sleet I saw as I drove through town but I was convinced by the large flurry which hit me at Waste Point on the drive up Snow was settling at the Park gates and I was getting excited Sadly once I reached Perisher the flurry had lost its strength and it only snowed gently for the rest of the day I think with the rain the natural cover has lost about 10cm since Tuesday Due to a lack of snow I took my two racers for a ski on Front Valley on their skate skis We had a blast and got some great looks from people in the lift queue Students enjoying the great nordic skiing terrain at Blue Cow Pony ride was the place to be Cold Shoulder needs another 30 40cm to open Pretty rough ski between the Interceptor and Pleasant Valley at the moment Front

great condition From the Quad Mid Station I traversed over to above the bottom of the Sun Valley T Bar and started skinning to the top of Mt P The snow was rock solid after the weekend rain but there was a tiny cover of hoar frost to make things sparkly After a visit to the trig to take a panorama of the Main Range didn t work I skied down Boomerang to the bottom of Eyre The top half had enough snow to make turns easily the bottom half had a lot of vegetation poking out which made skiing more difficult With another 20cm of snow Eyre should be nicely skiable I skinned back up Eyre which I followed up with a run down Towers Towers has a pretty good cover still some patches and some grass showing but with a couple more cold nights I m sure it will be great on Saturday After Towers I skied over to the bottom of Leichhardt and skinned up The Cleft With the lower altitude the cover was thinner around Leichhardt and needs at least another 40cm Front Valley Goats Gully Centre Valley needs another 40cm to open Mt Back Perisher
