  • Telemark Phat.Telemark skiing in Australia - Perisher Snow Report 25th of July 2009 - Have you seen this Lady?
Towers with a pair of 207cm Super G skis and a pair of 203cm Womens Down Hill skis The race training I have done this year has paid off I could control the SG skis much better than when I skied them last year they only managed 4 runs before I pulled a binding out of one ski I sheared the two rear screws After the crowds got too much 1 traversing beginner we headed back to the Perisher Centre to grab some more sensible skis and to pick up Tony Nicholson We quickly headed up the quad to make our way to our favourite powder stash The snow was still bone dry and 20 30cm deep On the way back Tony and I hiked to the ridgeline between Pleasant Valley and the Interceptor The snow was great here too and I had fun with a little drop By the time we got back to Mt P the day had got hot and most of the off piste had turned into refrozen crud there was the odd patch of nice snow but you had to look hard The wind had also picked up making the spindrift glisten in the afternoon

around Perisher and the right jokes Like the Ski Instructor who asked his students to wait for the lady my friend Owain Williams The Cleft and Sun Valley were groomed surprisingly well despite the above zero overnight temperatures but off piste was sticky and the theme of the day was thin cover even Perisher agreed and the resort was littered with thin cover warning signs The cover was worst over at Smiggins We ambled over to see what was in the Piper Park a dancefloor a short rail and two short boxes to complete the compulsory annual visit to Smiggins and to show Owain what it was like as he d never skied there The top of Wills Wander was grass but still good fun with the right attitude We then skied at interceptor and had a run down Rollercoaster The Sago which started at Interceptor had drifted very quickly onto rollercoaster and the top half of the run was great After a quick brew we skied back to Perisher and the sago turned to snow dry up high and it was still falling at Wilsons Valley on the drive home It was puking down tomorrow will be epic The

waited in Cowpuccino for my friends Robbie and Patrick to ski over from Guthega There were some snow flurries which continued occasionally throughout the morning but nothing to get excited about With the bad weather we made our way back to Guthega and a pleasant surprise there were 10cm deep drifts to be found everywhere There are still quite a few rocks and shrubberies poking out of the snow but

as me and the forecast overnight snow fell as rain instead We spent our training time below the cloud in warm temperatures which made the snow very soft You could see the big patches of dirt at the bottom of Blue Calf T Bar grow between each run of the course The snow was so soft that after every second run we had to snow plow and side slip down the course to try and cover the large ruts we were digging We chopped up the slope so much a racer in the group who used the Lindner Run next as their training course managed to lose a ski 17 people spent half an hour looking for a ski on a groomed run Later in the day I caught up with Chris Ernst and Tony Nicholson for some more runs at Guthega Karl s Run stayed in good nick throughout the day and The Screw had a couple of stashes of surprisingly good snow considering the overnight rain As we left sago was consistently falling but I don t think we will get much snow tonight Hopefully this system will deliver enough snow to at least maintain conditions The Course

headed over to the cross country trails to teach a nordic lesson The groomers on front valley and in centre valley were great and I m sure the skiing on any groomed run at Perisher would have been perfect this morning I only skied for an hour today to practice some of the racing techniques I learnt last weekend with the masters racers The falling down the hill technique feels

of the Duplex were open giving me a few runs of stashes in Goats Gully However soon I started to expand my Horizons and hiked to the top of Lawson from the Duplex and got tow runs in perfect creamy windblown down the cleft before anyone else made the effort At 10 00 the lifties got Lawson open and I had several more great runs through the powder bowl I

  • Telemark Phat.Telemark skiing in Australia - 06th of November 2010 - Club Lake Chutes
off expecting them to catch up later in the day After and Hour and a half we were on the Eastern Shoulder of Mt Carruthers and ready to ski The Elevator and Dogleg Chute both looked to be out of condition so we headed down skiers left of the main buttress on snow which had just corned up enough to be enjoyable From the bottom both Elevator and Dogleg look to be in condition so we decided to kick steps up the lookers right of Elevator The snow was still firm and after an hour of taking turns kicking steps we were at the Summit of Mt Carruthers This time we skied down Elevator which had perfect Corn the whole way After our second lap up our steps Craig and Ross appeared and joined us for a run down Dogleg The cover was thinner with unusual lumps in the crux of the chute but the snow was perfectly ripe Ross and Craig joined us for another lap up our staircase and we skied the lookers left chute the snow was now starting to get a bit sticky and we called it a day after skiing the four best lines available

  • Telemark Phat.Telemark skiing in Australia - Perisher Report 16th of October 2010
all of the new snow collected in previously bare aspects but not deep enough to ski With the bad weather I bet on Charlotte Pass instead of heading to the Main Range I had three quick runs on below the old poma top tower ruin and one either side of the double The first line below the ruin had some fresh but quickly became dust on crust The second line
