home Interski Part 9 17 09 15 The trip to Frey Interski Part 8 16 09 2015 Submitted by Richard Hocking on 17 September 2015 8 30pm After an evening of preparation I was up bright and early to catch the first municipal bus to Cerro Castor blindingly obvious in my bright ski gear with an axe strapped to my pack It was on Argentina time so I arrived at the base of Cerro Catedral at 8 00am The beta I d found online gave two options to get to Frey one from the top of the ski resort which required travel through avalanche terrain or a four hour walk With my lack of Avalanche skills and continuing flu weakened constitution I took the conservative choice and started the trek Read more about The trip to Frey Interski Part 8 16 09 2015 Barlioche Interski Part 7 14 15 09 2015 Submitted by Richard Hocking on 15 September 2015 9 22pm After Interski I had enough time to go somewhere else in South America and decided on an alpine refuge near the town of Bariloche called Refugio Frey I had planned to spend three days at Frey but the flu continued to hold me back and I was only able to manage two days Bariloche is another stunning location The city is on the shores of Lagos Nahuel Huapi with stunning mountains in every direction The city has a strong connection with Europe and is famous as a Nazi haven post WW2 Read more about Barlioche Interski Part 7 14 15 09 2015 The Guts of it Interski Part 6 10 12 09 15 Submitted by Richard Hocking on 12 September 2015 9 30pm The rest of interski was a blur of information fun hanging out with international friends and the flu which knocked me over for a day on the Thursday There were plenty more freshies and the snow stayed cold and dry On Wednesday the Kiwi workshop was on teaching alpine skiers how to cross over to telemark skiing The Kiwi style of skiing is similar to ours but with an early lead change at the top of the turn Their teaching style relies heavily on analogy and to communicate ideas and movements Read more about The Guts of it Interski Part 6 10 12 09 15 Demo Day Interski Part 5 09 09 15 Submitted by Richard Hocking on 9 September 2015 9 24pm Tuesday was the big day for the Australian Demo Team We had our four Demonstration Runs in the morning followed by the Alpine and Nordic Workshops Snowboard had also rebelled like Telemark the Team indoor presentation that evening I skipped it for two Telemark Lectures It had also snowed 20cm overnight and there was some great skiing to be had except on the demo slope Read more about Demo Day Interski Part 5 09 09 15 Getting Down to Business Interski Part 4 08 09 15 Submitted by Richard Hocking on 8 September

After the weeks rain and warm weather Skifree Katherine and I were keen to get out to the Western Slopes before all of the thaw turned them green We decided to head for Tenison Woods Knoll and decide where to go from there My bodies initial response to the exertions of walking to Soil Con Ck did not bode well for the rest of the day I was sore and ran out of puff easily We made it to Tennison Woods Knoll at 10 30 and decided we d had enough climbing so we decided to ski Watson s Ck a line I ve always skied straight past Read more about A slow sore day down Watson s Ck 11 10 2014 Add new comment Captain Pants and Major Snowshoe go to the Sentinel 04 10 2014 Submitted by Richard Hocking on 5 October 2014 11 13pm The RMS had cleared Kosciusko Rd to the Charlotte s Turning Circle and I had a hankering for another ski on the Western Faces Tony and Chris were keen and I ran into Owain and Katherine the day before at Perisher We met at the turning circle at 8 00am and decided on the Sentinel as a worthy goal I was the only member of the group who d skied it before so everyone was excited to tick another peak off their lists Read more about Captain Pants and Major Snowshoe go to the Sentinel 04 10 2014 Add new comment A long walk for two harvests BC report 12 10 2013 Submitted by Richard Hocking on 12 October 2013 5 57pm Tony was up for his last day this season so we decided to take a punt and see how much snow we d find on Twynam West We got off to a good start at 8 30 and crossed an already full Snowy river and we got to put our skins on after we reached Soil Conservation Creek At about 11am we reached to top of Tenison Woods Knoll We skied past Watsons Ck and the direct lines off Tenison Woods Knoll looked like they d finish before Watson s Ck so we skied the line furthest to the West Due to the cool breeze we had stunning corn and a long enough line to get the legs burning Read more about A long walk for two harvests BC report 12 10 2013 Add new comment The Paralyser 24 06 2012 Submitted by Richard Hocking on 25 June 2012 9 07pm After being spoilt on freshies all day yestaerday Tony and I decided BC was the way to go today especially since the cloudy cover seemd to be clearing We headed straight out to Eyre and had a run down Shifty s and satisfied that the wind blown hadn t fully cover up yesterdays tracks we headed towards Snow Snake The south side of Mt Perisher had enough cover but only just The lack of snow broke up the line down

warm and windy enough to melt a lot of snow and emphasised just what an average season we ve had There had been a freeze overnight and after a lap on the eastern face of Carruthers to let the snow corn up and let me warm up on skis I bought for meadow skipping not the days challenge we reached the summit of Carruthers at 11am Craig and I skied down elevator me a lot more carefully than Craig did It was survival skiing more than anything else for me but I was mostly linking turns till I got a third of the way down Elevator where it got narrower than I ve skied it before and rather firm Holding an edge on firm 45 O snow with ski gear not designed for that activity was a real challenge in both my technique and strength I was able to link two turns before needing a rest and the chance to psyche myself up for the next two turns At the bottom of Elevator it softened up and I was able to link turns without the rest Angus and I had another run from where Elevator opens up so Craig could get some shots from across the valley and then we hit a line down Lee I haven t skied down Lee in a long time but I had a stunning run down there on the skinny skis despite the unpredictable yard sales Angus and Craig on the walk to Mt Carruthers Angus with Northcote in the background Some meadow skipping while Elevator softened up Watsons Crags is finished for the season So many rests Photo Craig Half way down my skinny run of Elevator Photo Craig Elevator from the bottom Angus s tracks down the saddle between Carruthers and Lee
