dinner and booze and getting some beta on the best way to return to the walking track the top section through the short Legna would have been a nightmare to try and ski down I started my return trip at about 1pm The ski down did have a little bit of corn before I reached the trees but it was mostly still rock hard despite the altitude drop I didn t quite get the line right and had fun finding a way through the very tight small Legna Beech which grows as dense as Willow or Alder The bottom of the run was through the tall Legna which would be fantastic to ski through with some better snow The tall Legna don t have low branches and are perfectly spaced for tree skiing After another three hours of walking and more stunning vistas I d made it back to Cerro Catedral with perfect timing and stepped straight onto the bus to start my 52 hour trip back to Australia The Breakfast View Torre Principal Frey Frey and a view From Torre Principal on the left to Torre Piramidal Starting the day Ice The view from Lago Schmoll From Pico Bara on the left to El Pyramidal on the right My first run of two at Frey Torre La Lachuza with Torre Principal behind Torre Pico Bara Emilio inspecting the Solar Panels My second run down to Arroyo Van Titter El Volcancito and Catedral Norte The backside of Catedral Norte The top half of my second run Spanish Moss in the Legna Beech Pico Bara Looking east down the Van Titter Valley Cerro Ventana and Lago Gutierrez Cerro Loped and Lago Gutierrez More ice Piedra de Habsburg and Bariloche behind Lago Gutierrez Villa Catedral The base slopes at Cerro Catedral More

at 8 00am The beta I d found online gave two options to get to Frey one from the top of the ski resort which required travel through avalanche terrain or a four hour walk With my lack of Avalanche skills and continuing flu weakened constitution I took the conservative choice and started the trek Read more about The trip to Frey Interski Part 8 16 09 2015 Pure Velvet Paralyser Report 08 08 2015 Submitted by Richard Hocking on 8 August 2015 8 06pm Skifree and I were both keen to do some skinning and the Paralyser loop seemed like a great option Staying close to the resort would also help me test how my mods to me Meijdo s had gone After a gentlemanly departure of 9 30 from the Perisher Centre we skied directly to the double booted to the top of Mt P and skied down to Snow Snake Snow Snake was wind affected as usual above the trees but the snow was great in the trees There had been a good amount of snow during the week and a couple of cold clear nights had turned the fresh snow into velvet with a hoar frost

had been washed away After my first glimpse of Rock Inclinada and Torre El Pyramid the trail steepened and some sections were pretty slippery in my sneakers but the cold dissuaded me from putting on my boots The trail flattened out where it crossed Arroyo Van Titter Van Titter Ck and with some sunshine I transitioned to skis and skis for the remainder of the walk After a little while I came across a cute little emergency hut Refugio Piedritas and a small memorial The hut was built into a giant boulder The views continued to stun and the tall Legna Beech forest had a great atmosphere After passing an avalanche path on the side of Pico Barra the trail started climbing again until it reached Lago Toncek and Refugio Frey Taking the walk was a good choice my flu was back and I spent the afternoon chatting with other visitors and admiring the stunning view out the windows The reports of rock hard conditions didn t make me push myself to go out and ski a line either An unexpected surprise for an Australian visitor was the refuge s cat Emilio Emilio was named after the huts founder Emilio Frey and he had the rule of the roost both inside and out The famous sign designating the trail head to Refugio Frey Spindrift on Catedral Norte The slopes of Cerro Catedral up to Punta Nevada Half an hour down three and a half to go No puppies Snow covered track Po de los Paraliticos Catedral Norte behind the Legna Beech Looking east to Bariloche Cana colihue Catedral Norte Lago Gutierrez and Bariloche Icy waterfall Icey sticks The bridge is gone but the sign remains Cerro Lopez Typical bridge Burnt Legna Beech from a recent fire My first glimpse of
