    in both sustainable development and the regulatory structure that enables it In 2010 the Forum launched an LID Design Competition with the goal to dramatically accelerate the adoption adaptation and implementation of Low Impact Development and other sustainable development practices in the Houston area The competition provided a hands on learning experience through which design construction and development professionals in the Houston area could gain meaningful experience in working with LID methodologies that can be applied to their everyday practices The competition proved enormously successful and demonstrated that LID consistently proved less expensive and more effective in meeting stormwater requirements than conventional methods in the three identified categories Competition finalists were recognized at a finals ceremony where the EPA s Chief of the Nonpoint Source Branch Dov Weitman was invited as a juror After viewing the finalists presentations and submittals Weitman noted in a letter to his colleagues I want to let all of you know about an incredible energizing experience I had last week in Houston I participated as a member of the Jury Panel for the Finals Event in the Houston Land Water Sustainability Forum s Low Impact Development Competition on January 27 The bottom line is they

    Arlington is considering the redevelopment of an approximate 9 acre site within Arlington s Downtown Civic Center to integrate the existing City Hall with public private development that will include Arlington s new Central Library as well as office and retail space The challenge is to design a property that has the potential of meeting the vision for the Central Library and Civic Center and serving as a catalyst for Downtown Arlington while incorporating Low Impact Development techniques reducing impervious cover promoting infiltration reducing stormwater pollution and reducing long term maintenance costs Urban Redevelopment Cedars West Dallas TX Click here for Criteria and program for this project Bid Tabulation Cedars West Design Challenge venue will be provided by Mathews Southwest An approximately 60 acre site will be transformed from vacant land to a mixed use urban neighborhood The challenge is to design a new green mixed use development and interior roadway system that incorporates LID techniques reduces impervious cover promotes infiltration reduces stormwater pollution through bio filtration or other means and reduces long term maintenance costs Green Roadway South Lamar Street Dallas TX Click here for Criteria and program for this project Bid Tabulation Green Roadway Design Challenge Road section will be provided by City of Dallas An approximately one mile stretch of the existing South Lamar Street will be transformed from a variable 4 to 6 lane roadway to incorporate green infrastructure while accomodating scrap metal recyclers and associated traffic on one side of the street and various uses including some residential on the other side of the street The challenge is to design a new green roadway section that incorporates Low Impact Development techniques redces impervious cover promotes infiltration reduces stormwater pollution through biofiltration or other means and reduces long term maintenance costs Urban Redevelopment Northern Crossing West Click here for Criteria and program for this project Bid Tabulation Northern Crossing West Urban Redevelopment Design Challenge will be provided by TIG Clarion The NCX project consists of an approximately 115 acre site with 56 acres that are developable and undeveloped and another 20 acres of land that has been set aside for wetland mitigation and detention The challenge is to design a new green mixed use development and interior bike ped system that incorporates Low Impact Development techniques reduces impervious cover promotes infiltration reduces stormwater pollution through bio filtration or other means and reduces long term maintenance costs Available information such as Site Plans maps and pre development conditions are provided for each category and represent actual data from the site involved Submission Requirements All entry submissions must be received no later than 4 00 PM September 14 2012 Each entry must be submitted as follows At least one but no more than two foam core presentation boards 30 x 40 on which the team s key concepts and elements of the design are presented visually including a summary of the economic and hydrologic modeling results Selected boards will be displayed with identifying team information at the Finals
