    Exempt Department Development Role Essential Functions Reporting to the Development Officer the Grant Writer will assist the Development Officer in the identification creation and submission of funding application packages and Letters of Inquiry to current and prospective funding partners that result in the secure of total annual funding to the Chicago Urban League CUL in excess of 8M Additionally the Grant Writer works to ensure proper and consistent monitoring and reporting related to funding secured Primary Responsibilities Undertakes a strategic approach to aligning CUL s key programs and initiatives to funding opportunities Supports the Development Coordinator in completing extensive and ongoing prospect research online databases clearinghouses professional literature and donor prospecting directories of current and prospective corporate foundation and United Way partners in an effort to collect data and identify viable funding opportunities Completes all stages of funding proposal development including confirmation of project program objectives contact with the funding partner for clarification of guidelines as well as development of letters of inquiry online applications and formal proposals with the appropriate organization approvals obtained Proofreads and edits text for correct grammar spelling punctuation and concise and easy to understand language that effectively presents the council s mission and communicates a compelling case for support Monitors progress of funding proposals after submission to ensure that all required procedures and requirements are being met Ensures the fulfillment of funding partner benefits e g article in newsletter acknowledgement in annual report Perform other duties as required or assigned Qualifications and Requirements Bachelor s degree required or equivalent relevant experience One to three years of experience with a demonstrated track record in authoring winning funding applications Strong computer skills Microsoft Office Publisher SUPERIOR written and verbal communication skills Ability to present a positive image and communicate effectively via telephone and in person Organized strategic
