  • The Ik: A marginalized tribe in northeast Uganda | The Family International
    the peaks of mountains on the Kenyan Ugandan border escarpment We were thrilled to be able to assist them and eventually John Mark Lomeri an Ik tribesman recorded enough to fill two hours of audio tapes A charity in the U S generously donated hand cranked tape recorders which we were then able to distribute to each of the communities who live in kraals village of huts usually surrounded by a stockade or manyattas homesteads scattered along the mountain tops Given the fact that we would need to travel the length of Karamoja in order to reach the Ik it was a rather daunting challenge but it was a wonderful experience to bring the Gospel to these peace loving people whose language is so unique Some months later after having recorded a further three hours of Bible stories and after having received a further donation of 45 hand cranked tape recorders we again headed north of Kaabong this time armed with educational and medical supplies as well The rains were unseasonably heavy and the previous extremely dry terrain was awash in mud The main bridge at Kaabong had been washed out so we forded the river and proceeded to again

    soliciting donations and counseling for the women in Kigo Prison HIV Positive Widows and Orphans Over the years we have donated substantial quantities of income generating goods to the Akutwala Ekiro Women s group which cares for over 400 widows and orphans in Mbuya L Arche Uganda L Arche Uganda cares for a number of physically and mentally challenged young people They do an excellent job and we ve assisted them on a weekly basis for several years with donations food income generating materials and programs for the young people Murals Brighten Lives 1 Murals Brighten Lives For several months our team accompanied one of our volunteers Nyx Martinez to the main government hospital in Kampala Programs Prison 1 Seeds of Hope Germinate in Prison One of our friends Lukia has an ongoing ministry to the inmates of a women s prison here in Uganda A number of these women were simply near the scene of a crime and so were rounded up by the police Then without the means to afford proper representation they languish in prison indefinitely RadioActive Public Service Radio Broadcasts 7 Reactions to Our Radio Broadcasts NightLight continues to broadcast nightly I host one show a week live and four others are pre recorded If you can work out our time difference you can listen live to NightLight online at www victoryuganda org at 19 00 GMT Mondays through Friday Click on to the Alpha FM live streaming Church in the Home On the second Sunday afternoon of every month we host a fellowship meeting at our house This is always very well attended and gives us a chance to meet people who have been responding to our radio programs We have lots of singing testimonies and a Bible study topic Reaction to Our Audio Ministry
