    puppet show at their special activity during Dental Month We put together a new 40 minute show focusing on health hygiene and the care of our teeth which our teen and preteen puppeteers presented beautifully Dental Mission 2003 We held our first dental mission last year a project that was conceived after I attended a series of operations on children with harelip or cleft palate The condition of the children s teeth was shocking Clearly something needed to be done Assisting the homeless 1 Help for the Homeless Every Saturday night we feed the homeless in Gifu City We usually give a rich hot bowl of noodles or a homemade obento boxed meal and bananas We also give motivational publications and pray for each of the 15 or 20 people we feed Education disadvantaged 1 Nutrition Program Gains International Sponsor Jenny a Filipina American living in Chicago had wanted for many years to do charity work in her parents homeland the Philippines which she hadn t visited in 16 years Outreach Christian counseling 1 Healthy Bodies Healthy Outlook When we took our regular supply of donated fruit and veggies from the market to a local women s refuge a woman we hadn t met before came out to receive the delivery She explained that she had worked at this refuge over a year ago and recently returned Outreach Youth Outreach 3 English Corner Taipei Youth Outreach The English Corner is a place where young people can come every week to practice their English and have live conversations with foreign friends Taipei youth outreach Angelia 20 I used to be very bad tempered and I only thought about myself Now I want to be more kind to others and make them happy instead of only myself I m happy to have known the Family for the past two years A Turning Point The FreeZone Youth Activity Center established and staffed by the Taipei branch of the Family International holds Bible classes and offers counseling and other activities to help Taipei s youth build a positive outlook on life and become good citizens Performances General 1 Music Laughter and God s Love I watched to see how people would react as our team of 15 lively teenagers decked out in face paint and eye catching costumes boarded a subway car packed with rush hour commuters Surprised looks soon turned to smiles as the young people greeted them and explained what they were up to Performances Senior citizen 1 Christmas Cheer to Retirees Every Christmas members of our Family International community visit a nearby retirement home to interact with the elderly residents and bring some warmth and cheer into their lives Post typhoon Yolanda disaster relief 1 Post typhoon Yolanda disaster relief On November 8 2013 Typhoon Yolanda struck causing catastrophic destruction in the Visayas Typhoon Yolanda the deadliest Philippine typhoon on record particularly affected Samar and Leyte where most residents lost some family members or relatives Programs Hospital visitation 1 Pediatric Cancer

    most seriously affected are children especially those who have lost members of their family friends or their homes 2009 Articles 4 Award for Continuing Education Program The Family International received an award from the Thai government for our continuing education program with juveniles in detention This program comprises a series of bi weekly educational classes that combine teaching English to the boys with leadership training Seminar and Book Distribution in Angtong Thailand We were able to contact the director of the largest primary school in Angtong through flood relief work we did a previous year The children come from underprivileged families and often lack in many basic necessities Wat Sa Kaew An orphanage located an hour away from Bangkok houses 1 700 orphans and very poor children The Buddhist monks who run the institution have to raise an enormous amount of finances and material assistance to be able to house feed and educate these children 2008 Articles 18 Organic Desalination We have facilitated the desalinating of 60 acres of agricultural land in Kandakaddu in Cuddalore District This land was rendered useless by the flooding of tsunami salt water The desalination process was a completely organic process School Renovation and Village Rebuilding The Family India with the help of several donor agencies was able to provide 59 new houses to the residents of a tsunami affected village in Tamil Nadu called Ponanthittu Each of these houses has a living room kitchen bedroom bathroom and staircase leading up to the terrace Providing Tools to Boat Workers Not only did the tsunami ravage the lives of the fishermen it also hit the lives of those who earn a living by providing services to the fishing industry The Family India has been helping these allied workers by making it possible for them to be self reliant once again 2007 Articles 4 A Wave of Happiness The Family India organized Khushiyon ki Bahaar A Wave of Happiness a special Children s Day fair for 2 800 underprivileged children from the National Capital Region The kids had a wonderful time They ate a delicious lunch danced sang played games won prizes and had snacks and cold drinks Tsunami Relief Project Reaches a Milestone A fishing village about 20 km 13 mi south of where we live was severely damaged by the Asian tsunami of December 2004 and 53 families lost their homes Family Counseling We offer counseling to the parents of children who attend our English classes once a week and in getting to know the parents we ve found that they all need the Lord s love in different ways 2006 Articles 4 The Elderly not Forgotten At the Golden Years Home for the Elderly wheelchairs formed neat rows in the courtyard a resident in each one and a look of anticipation on each weathered face Yogyakarta Earthquake Relief In the early morning of May 27 a major earthquake shook the central Java city of Yogyakarta and the surrounding area claiming more than 5 800
