    at a time Others chose cleaning supplies We provide the supplies in large containers at a good price and then the women decant them into soft drink bottles so that they can make a small profit on each sale The women are then responsible to return the cost price to reorder their products Barbara our chairperson is very careful with the accounting to ensure that money is rolled over for the next month We supplied all the women with calculators and receipt books to help them keep track of their profit margins and sales As you would expect some women do better than others They are learning how to handle their accounts and make progress with their micro businesses Even those who have not been so successful have learnt important lessons from the experience It has been an education for everyone as important life skills are learned and when successful it is a sustainable project which empowers and enhances the lives of the women and their families The Mother s Club Crèche and Counselling Centre Our converted container is in place and is already in use for our Sunday Club It gives a place to hold the meetings when it rains which has happened a great deal recently as well as to store sports and other equipment for the club We are working on building an office for the counselling centre and completing the necessary improvements for the Mother s Club crèche childcare center which will be a free of charge crèche run by the HIV positive mothers themselves Facing the future with dignity While not a subject that most of us like to think about having a proper funeral plan for the Mother s Club has long been on our minds and hearts We have had a few instances

    improve the babies chances of being HIV negative Spiritual counseling as having hope is vital and it is well documented that it generally leads to patients living longer Basic skills training such as knitting and sewing to help generate a sustainable income Assistance in building happy experiences and memories An important aspect of our work is to promote short term and long term goals and also to provide positive experiences for the mothers and their babies This is accomplished by activities such as monthly birthday parties excursions and projects such as tree planting Help with obtaining government grants One of our associates guides the applicants through the process by helping them to obtain the necessary paperwork such as affidavits and ID and directs them to the correct government offices where they can obtain further support To those who have TB and are HIV positive we provide Nutritious food parcels which make a marked difference in the individual s health Basic skills training such as knitting sewing Vegetable gardening including learning how to grow vegetables for their own consumption This has both nutritional and therapeutic value Literacy classes Help with obtaining government grants Spiritual counseling and support which includes helping individuals

    We took a 10 ton truck to Nakapiripirit Namalu in Karamoja where a friend ran a camp for some very needy widows and children Orphans from Lira and Katakwi A local pastor Peter Obua was formerly a soldier when he found out he was HIV positive He then had an amazing experience with Jesus which changed his life Seeds of Hope Germinate in Prison One of our friends Lukia has an ongoing ministry to the inmates of a women s prison here in Uganda A number of these women were simply near the scene of a crime and so were rounded up by the police Then without the means to afford proper representation they languish in prison indefinitely Carpet a Creche Campaign Diepsloot Every year we work to upgrade the crèches childcare facility in Diepsloot in some way Most of the babies and toddlers take their naps during the day on cement floors often with just a thin blanket underneath them Most crèches have very little carpet The Three Desert Team A team of some of our teenagers and young volunteers embarked on a trip through the arid landscape of three deserts the Karoo the Namib and the Kalahari with a mission to make a difference in the lives of other young people Zaria update Completion of VVF building and renovation of old VVF ward The VVF Vocational Training Center and Recovery Ward that we began building in October 2006 is now completed and up and running Two of our volunteers spent a week in Zaria where we completed the final touches on the building itself as well as on the adjacent kitchen and bathroom Limpopo Reaching Out in the Rural Areas We took a trip to the northern province of Limpopo as we had been receiving requests for our

    had arranged with the Kampala City Council for many of the widows to be relocated from living in desperate circumstances on the streets of Kampala to this camp in Karamoja She was very concerned about their well being so we went with her to ensure the items got into the hands of the widows and children We were able to take the entire 10 tons of bedding warm jackets shoes
